“There’s something wrong with it…” Oh yes there definitely is! Shudder has revealed the full official trailer for the film titled Nightborn, made by Finnish genre filmmaker Hanna Bergholm. It’s her second film after the super creepy Hatching a few years back. Nightborn premiered at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year to mostly good reviews, and it’s also playing at the Fantasia Film Festival later this month before it’s streaming on Shudder to watch. In Finnish forest, Saga and her husband Jon embark on a new chapter as parents. But Saga’s joy is overshadowed by a chilling suspicion about their newborn baby. Unbeknownst to Jon, the new child begins causing a rift as she alone grapples with the disturbing truth. Is this thing evil?! Is it a demon baby?! You’ll have to watch to find out. Starring Seidi Haarla as Saga & Rupert Grint as Jon, the new parents, along with Pamela Tola, Pirkko Saisio, Rebecca Lacey, & John Thomson. This film is super freaky! This ain’t some nuanced “what is the baby up to” it’s full-on frightening, evil, unsettling newborn mania. I’ve seen this and it still haunts me! Especially the way this thing just screams so viciously.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Hanna Bergholm’s horror Nightborn, from Shudder’s YouTube:
“In Nordic countries, there’s a long-standing mythology of trolls living in the forests. In ancient times, people truly believed that trolls inhabited the woods and had a kind of control over nature. And in Nightborn, the forest reflects Saga’s emotions and the animalistic, primitive physical side of humankind.” –Director Hanna Bergholm

Intro via Berlinale: “With dreams of starting a perfect family, Saga and her British husband Jon move to the isolated house deep in the Finnish forest where Saga spent much of her childhood. But as soon as their baby is born, despite the reassurances of everyone around her, Saga knows something is terribly wrong. As their marriage starts to crack and Jon struggles to support his wife, only Saga suspects the disturbing truth about their newborn child.” Nightborn, also known as Yön Lapsi in Finnish, is directed by the Finnish genre filmmaker Hanna Bergholm, director of the horror movie Hatching previously, and some other TV work and shorts. The screenplay is written by Ilja Rautsi & Hanna Bergholm. Produced by Daniel Kuitunen, Noëmie Devide. This initially premiered at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival earlier in the year. Shudder debuts Bergholm’s Nightborn streaming on Shudder starting July 31st, 2026 this summer. Who wants to watch?
