Amid Ongoing Controversy, Daniel Craig’s $758 Million Spy Flick Is a Global Streaming Hit

The James Bond fandom was recently awash with outrage following Amazon’s decision to add trigger warnings to all 25 films in the franchise. Warnings on several of the films include “violence, alcohol use, smoking, and foul language,” as well as “nudity” and “sexual content,” although some more controversial moments throughout the franchise seemingly went without mention. With many branding the move “woke” and others admitting the decision made no impact at all on their ability to view the movies, the one thing that can be agreed upon is that this has brought even more eyes to the 007 series, something reflected in the recent streaming charts.

At the time of writing, the most recent Bond installment and star Daniel Craig‘s last, 2021’s No Time to Die, is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Prime Video globally. Proving popular among the likes of Shane Black‘s Play Dirty, Outer Banks star Madison Bailey‘s romantic comedy Maintenance Required, and Jason Statham‘s A Working Man, No Time to Die offers Craig fans a taste of his kick-ass crime-solving before his Benoit Blanc, another crime-solver (albeit with entirely different methods), returns in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The synopsis for No Time to Die reads:

“In No Time to Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.”

‘No Time to Die’ Was a Huge Box Office Hit

Although it eventually fell short of both Spectre and Skyfall, No Time to Die was still an enormous success for the franchise, becoming the third-highest-grossing entry yet behind the aforementioned pair. Produced on a reported budget of $250 million, the film tripled this huge investment with a total global haul of $758 million. Split between $161 million in domestic revenue and a whopping $598 million from overseas markets, No Time to Die finished 2021 as the year’s fourth highest-grossing movie, losing out on the top spot to the third-placed The Battle at Lake Changjin, second-placed Hi, Mom, and the chart-topping, all-conquering Marvel hit Spider-Man: No Way Home.

No Time to Die is streaming now. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
