Following a chilling final scene, viewers were left questioning whether the iconic villain had made his return. The co-showrunners, Brad Caleb Kane and Jason Fuchs, have now offered a vague response.

The third episode of HBO’s It: Welcome to Derry has sparked widespread speculation among viewers after a scene seemingly hinted at Pennywise’s arrival. The show’s creators have now given a cryptic answer regarding the mysterious figure shown on screen, leaving it unclear whether it is truly the infamous villain.

The HBO prequel, set in 1962, continues to explore the sinister origins of Pennywise’s terror. In Episode 3, Will Hanlon (Blake Cameron James) is drawn to a cemetery crypt, where he photographs a mysterious figure following a series of disturbing sounds. When the photograph develops, it appears to reveal the outline of a clown, prompting Will to murmur, “It’s a clown,” just before the screen fades to black.

Though many believe Pennywise finally made his entrance, co-showrunners Brad Caleb Kane and Jason Fuchs have remained vague about the scene. Speaking to Deadline, Kane teased, “Is that Pennywise at the end of 103?” before adding, “I don’t know.” He explained that the series is designed to keep audiences uncertain. 

Kane added, “We think it is…as you can tell by the end of the first episode, we tried to pull the rug out from underneath the audience. So right away, you feel like, no matter who I’m rooting for, nobody is safe in this show, and nothing is as it seems, and anything can happen.” Fuchs playfully added, “I think it’s Pennywise, don’t you?”

Kane further explained, “It’s absolutely Pennywise. That’s what I’m going to say to your viewers, and they should go in thinking that. We’ll have to see what happens in the latter half of the season.” While the showrunners remain cryptic, their comments have fueled anticipation for Pennywise’s appearance, leading many to believe that it could possibly be him, and they are perhaps just trying to throw people off.
