Period dramas and comedies aren’t usually two genres that share much overlap, but when Jim O’Hanlon’s Fackham Hall arrives in cinemas on December 5, the world will see what it’s been missing. Taking the themes of favorites like Downton Abbey and Belgravia and blending them into a script like one you’d laugh along with in Monty Python and Airplane!, the upcoming film is a genius step forward for the genre that so many have overlooked. Today, as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we’ve got a sneak peek at the Bleecker Street-backed film, with some hysterical on-screen work done by Tom Felton (the Harry Potter film series), Emma Laird (Mayor of Kingstown), and legendary comedian Jimmy Carr.
The wedding guests have arrived, and the bride, Poppy (Laird), and groom, Archibald (Felton), have taken their place at the front of the church. Standing behind the pulpit is the vicar (Carr), who is ready to deliver a dynamite sermon. Unfortunately, thanks to some poorly placed punctuation and run-on sentences, his prayer raises more eyebrows than it does moments of spiritual enlightenment and reflection.
A one-of-its-kind production, Fackham Hall centers on Ben Radcliffe’s (Red Sonja) Eric Noone, a professional pick-pocket who has found himself landing the hustle of a lifetime after he’s hired as a member of the staff at a sprawling English manor. Thanks to his charisma and good looks, Eric quickly assimilates into his surroundings and, because of his work ethic, soon rises through the ranks as one of the family’s most trusted employees. Along the way, a forbidden romance begins to blossom between Eric and the lady-of-the-house, Rose Davenport (Thomasin McKenzie), which gets all the more complicated after a murder is committed and Eric becomes the prime suspect.
Meet the Impressive Cast Behind ‘Fackham Hall’
Walking the corridors and hallways of the English manor is a lineup of stars that also includes Katherine Waterston (Alien: Covenant), Tom Goodman-Hill (The Secret Agent), Ramon Tikaram (Pennyworth), Tim McMullan (Magpie Murders), Anna Maxwell Martin (Bleak House), Sue Johnston (Downton Abbey) and Damian Lewis (Band of Brothers). In addition to starring in the spoof flick, Carr also co-penned the screenplay alongside Steve Dawson, Andrew Dawson, Tim Inman and Patrick Carr.
Embrace the crossover genre that you never knew you needed with our exclusive new look at Fackham Hall in the video above and see it in cinemas on December 5. Stay tuned for more from Collider’s Exclusive Preview event.
