Cincinnati Bengals rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart is going on injured reserve with a knee injury, NFL Network reported on Saturday.

The first-round draft pick (17th overall) missed four games earlier this season with an ankle injury and now must sit out at least four more games.

Stewart, who turned 22 on Wednesday, has recorded six tackles and one quarterback hit in five games (four starts). He has played a total of 177 snaps on defense.

The Bengals (3-6) visit the Pittsburgh Steelers (5-4) on Sunday. Stewart’s earliest possible return would be in Week 15 against the visiting Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 14.

Nine-year veteran offensive tackle Donovan Smith announced his retirement from football on Sunday.

Smith played 136 games in his NFL career. He was a second-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was immediately plugged into the starting lineup and was a PFWA All-Rookie selection.


He would go on to play eight seasons for the Buccaneers. Most notably, he was a starter on the team that won Super Bowl LV.

The Buccaneers released Smith in March of 2023. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he concluded his career by winning his second Super Bowl ring.

He went unsigned for the entire 2025 season.

All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me, along with the World Cup.”

Simons has scored six goals in 34 appearances with the Netherlands’ national team. He made his debut with the squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Netherlands, No. 7 in the FIFA world rankings, are in Group F for the World Cup with Japan, Sweden and Tunisia. The Dutch begin play on June 14 against Japan in Arlington, Texas.
