“I’m really enjoying our conversation so far, Adam.” Ha! This looks like good fun. Abramorama unveiled their official trailer for a documentary film titled Deepfaking Sam Altman, an especially clever, amusing, meta commentary film about artificial intelligence and how crazy (and crappy) it is becoming. This first premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year and will be out to watch in select theaters this January 2026. A filmmaker’s humorous journey into the modern A.I. trend leads to unexpected questions about humanity’s future and our relationship with any kind of emerging technology. When filmmaker Adam Bhala Lough can’t reach Open AI’s Sam Altman for an interview, he builds his own version using Altman’s own technology. His creation called “Sambot” becomes an AI co-director of the film, one mirroring Adam’s fears, ambitions, and blind spots. The result is a revealing portrait of our era’s obsession with simulation, power, and the longing for connection in this digital age. It looks great! A must see doc film for tech geeks.
Here’s the official trailer (+ posters) for Adam Bhala Lough’s doc Deepfaking Sam Altman, on YouTube:

When Los Angeles filmmaker Adam Bhala Lough fails to land an interview with the elusive Sam Altman, he travels to India to deepfake the tech CEO, only to create a glitchy LLM “Sam Bot” that moves into his home, befriends his son and begins co-directing the movie. As Sam Bot grows more lifelike, Adam is forced to decide whether to delete the AI he accidentally brought to life. The film becomes a sharp, surprisingly moving exploration of how humans navigate the chaotic new world of artificial intelligence. Deepfaking Sam Altman is a documentary film directed by filmmaker Adam Bhala Lough, director of the doc films Bomb the System, Weapons, The Upsetter: The Life and Music of Lee Scratch Perry, The Motivation 1 & 2 & 3, Hot Sugar’s Cold World, and Alt-Right: Age of Rage previously. Based on reporting from New York Magazine. Produced by Kevin Hart, Luke Kelly-Clyne, Bryan Smiley, Harold Berón III. This first premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. Abramorama debuts Lough’s Deepfaking Sam Altman doc in select US theaters starting on January 16th, 2026 coming soon. For details visit the film’s official site.
