“The most important thing is to be yourself.” BBC has unveiled their trailer for a fun comedy series called The Other Bennet Sister, which will be streaming in the UK on BBC later this month. A romantic comedy about one of the other Bennet sisters in the big family from Jane Austen’s iconic novel Pride and Prejudice. The Other Bennet Sister offers a fresh take on one of Austen’s most unassuming characters: Mary Bennet. Forced to step out of her sisters’ shadows, Mary embarks on a journey of self-discovery – finding love, and most importantly herself, along the way. Mary leaves her sisters’ shadows to find herself, embarking on a journey from Meryton to London and the Lake District. Her quest for independence leads to an unexpected love story in Regency-era England. Starring Ella Bruccoleri as Mary Bennet, with Ruth Jones as Mrs Bennet, Richard E. Grant as Mr Bennet, Indira Varma, Richard Coyle, Laurie Davidson, & Dónal Finn as Mr Hayward. It seems like a kooky, clever twist on the usual Jane Austen stories on screen. Enjoy.

The first part of the series follows the events from Pride and Prejudice from Mary Bennet’s point of view, before the story departs to follow Mary as she travels to London & the Lake District. The overlooked sister from the big Bennet family has a romantic adventure in Regency-era England. The Other Bennet Sister is a comedy series created and written by Sarah Quintrell, adapted from the 2020 novel of the same name by Janice Hadlow, based around the character Mary Bennet from the Jane Austen novel “Pride and Prejudice” (published in 1813). With additional writing by Maddie Dai. All of the episodes are directed by filmmaker Jennifer Sheridan, of the film Rose and series “The Snow Spider”, “Rules of the Game”, “Extraordinary”, “Malpractice” previously.
