Avengers: Doomsday Directors Reveal If They’ll Make More MCU Movies After Secret Wars

Avengers: Doomsday directors comment on the possibility of directing more MCU films. The Russo brothers previously directed two Captain America films before moving on to the MCU’s Phase 3 two-part finale in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Following Endgame, the directors moved on to make films outside the MCU, but surprisingly returned to Marvel Studios to helm two more Avengers films.

What did the Russo Brothers say about making more MCU movies after Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars?

In an interview with Deadline, the Russo brothers were asked whether they would continue their collaboration with Marvel Studios, post-Secret Wars. In response, Anthony Russo suggested that the possibility remains, but he couldn’t provide a definitive answer.

“When we did Endgame, it was our fourth Marvel film [and] we had completed a story arc that we began in The Winter Soldier, and for us that was intended to be an ending,” said Anthony Russo. “I will say this – the stories that we are focused on now [are] complete. Doomsday and Secret Wars speak with one another as two films, and they form a complete expression. Whether or not we all collaborate with Marvel beyond that, it’s certainly a possibility but right now the narrative vision is just through Secret Wars at this point.”

From the sound of things, Doomsday and Secret Wars will provide a similar experience to the last two ensemble films. While Infinity War and Endgame feel distinct, they also tell a larger story in two parts. Rumors have suggested that Avengers: Doomsday will also end in a cliffhanger, similar to Thanos’ snap in Infinity War. The Russo brothers previously referred to Doomsday as the MCU’s new phase zero, suggesting that it will reset the franchise.

That’s not to say that Doomsday is guaranteed to be a big success. The latest scoops from industry commentators have suggested that the film isn’t doing so well behind the scenes. It’s rumored to bring back iconic Marvel characters outside of the sacred timeline, setting the stage for Secret Wars led by surprising heroes.

Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
