Borget’s Wife Escapes Failed Kidnapping in France

The wife of Sébastien Borget, co-founder and chief operating officer of The Sandbox, escaped an attempted kidnapping at the family’s home in Villenoy, Seine-et-Marne, France.

The report said six suspects were involved. Two were later arrested, while four remained at large.

Two Suspects Arrested After Failed Uber Escape

According to the same report, one suspect allegedly posed as a delivery worker to gain access to the property before masked accomplices tried to force the victim into a vehicle. A neighbor reportedly heard cries for help and intervened, disrupting the attempt before the attackers could complete the abduction.

The victim was not reported to have suffered serious physical injuries. Two arrested suspects were reportedly teenagers who were stopped after trying to flee in an Uber.

Police reportedly recovered items including a fake handgun, zip ties and balaclavas. Those details come from local press reports and have not been independently confirmed in a public Fpolice statement cited by crypto outlets.

Crypto Motive Remains Unconfirmed in French Probe

Investigators are reportedly examining whether the attempted abduction was linked to the family’s crypto-industry profile. A motive has not been formally established in the reporting so far.

Borget is a prominent executive at The Sandbox, the blockchain gaming platform associated with the SAND token. That makes the case sensitive for the crypto sector, but the available reporting does not yet confirm that the attackers targeted the family because of Borget’s role in digital assets.

France Faces Wave of Crypto-Linked Abduction Cases

The incident comes amid a broader wave of violent attacks and attempted abductions involving crypto executives and their relatives in France. In May 2025, France had already seen multiple attacks targeting people linked to the crypto industry.

Those cases included the kidnapping of Ledger co-founder David Balland and a failed abduction targeting the daughter of Paymium CEO Pierre Noizat.

For the crypto sector, the latest case is another reminder that security risk is no longer limited to wallets, exchanges and smart contracts. Recent incidents show that publicly identifiable crypto founders, executives and relatives can also become physical-security targets.
