One of the biggest breakout shows of the year, the smash-hit British Netflix series Adolescence dazzled audiences across the world with its stellar performances, innovative camerawork, and vital story. The show peaked on streaming as the #1 most-streamed show in 75 out of a possible 93 countries, even finding itself as a topic of conversation in the British government and altering the entire country’s education system.
Part of the show’s major success was its use of young, unknown stars, with the highlight being the young actor Owen Cooper, who looks set for an eye-catching career. Another actor who impressed despite having little screen time was Amari Bacchus, who portrayed DI Bascombe’s son Adam in the second episode of the miniseries. Following Adolescence, the young actor has found his next project, with Deadline revealing that Bacchus is set to join the cast of the new BBC children’s drama, Crookhaven.
Based on the successful book series by JJ Arcanjo, Crookhaven will follow Vigil star Dougray Scott as Caspian Lockett, the headmaster of a school designed to help hone the skills of budding young crooks and use them to bring balance to the outside world. Speaking in a statement, Scott said of his casting, “I am thrilled to get started on this fantastic family drama. I am really looking forward to working with all of the extremely talented people on this production and bringing this role to life.”
Who Else Is Starring in ‘Crookhaven’?
Joining Scott in this exciting new BBC series are a plethora of award-winning actors, including many from some of the most recognizable series currently on television. This includes Slow Horses alum Naomi Wirthner, Industry‘s Claire Forlani, Shallow Grave‘s Keith Allen, Lucas Leach of FBI: International fame, The Witcher’s Carmel Laniado, Leila Khan of Heartstopper, Cruella‘s Tipper Seifert-Cleveland, and many others. Speaking in a statement, Patricia Hidalgo, Director BBC Children’s and Education, said of the upcoming adaptation:
“Crookhaven, an adaptation from the already successful books, will make a gripping Kids & Family TV Drama series, with intriguing characters, ingenious plot twists and dark secrets. We know it will resonate strongly at home and abroad, and we could not be more excited to bring such high end production together with a tremendous wealth of acting talent to our line up.”
