Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Cast Reunion Convinces Me One Original Character Must Be Coming Back For The Reboot

Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Cast Reunion Convinces Me One Original Character Must Be Coming Back For The Reboot

As we learn more and more about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, there is one character from the original series who I really want to see come back to the show. Originally, Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran for seven seasons between 1997 and 2003, with a follow-up comic book run that covered “season 8” and beyond. This new reboot, however, would bring the world of Buffy and the remains of Sunnydale back to television for the first time since the spinoff series, Angel, concluded in 2004.

So far, not much is known about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. We know that the new Slayer will be Ryan Kierra Armstrong, a young actor who has appeared in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and American Horror Story season 10. We also know that Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her role as Buffy Summers, the Slayer audiences first fell in love with in 1997. But, based on Gellar’s recent public appearances, there is another classic BtVS character that I think there is a good chance we will see in the reboot, even if nothing is confirmed yet.

Sarah Michelle Gellar & Alyson Hannigan Working Together Again Sets Up A Buffy Reunion

They Still Have A Working Relationship 20 Years Later

Gellar and Alyson Hannigan have been appearing in public together at a variety of different events, and those public appearances set up a reunion of Buffy Summers and Willow Rosenberg in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. At events ranging from the premiere of the Lifetime movie Pretty Hurts, to an interview with The Today Show, to Hannigan’s Instagram (@alysonhannigan), Gellar and Hannigan keep making public appearances.

7 Characters That Need To Return In The Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot

A new generation of Slayers are taking up the stakes, but these 7 characters’ returns are essential for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.

These many and varied appearances prove that, despite more than 20 years passing since they co-starred in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the two actors still share a working relationship and a genuine friendship. For any revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the relationships between the original Buffy cast members will be absolutely critical. It makes me happy to think that Hannigan and Gellar are still friends and could reunite in the revival.

I cannot help but think that the pair are hinting that Hannigan will return as Willow.

Since Gellar has already confirmed that she will reprise her role as Buffy in the reboot, I cannot help but think that the pair are hinting that Hannigan will return as Willow. In the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Willow and Buffy were incredibly close friends across all seven seasons, which makes it rewarding to see that the two actors share a real friendship offscreen as well. When the Buffy the Vampire reboot eventually comes out, I want to see more of that iconic friendship once again.

Why The Buffy Reboot Should Definitely Bring Back Willow

There Are So Many Stories To Tell With Willow

Regardless of all the offscreen reasons that it would make sense for Willow to come back in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, the story of Buffy just wouldn’t make sense without Willow. Over the show’s seven original seasons, Willow transitioned from a shy high school student to the most powerful witch of her generation, totally unashamed to be her own authentic self. In season 5, Willow was strong enough in her powers to make a goddess bleed. In season 6, Willow was strong enough to nearly destroy the world.

10 Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes That Had Perfect Endings

The way an episode ends is meaningful on many levels, and through its seven seasons, Buffy the Vampire Slayer had a few endings that still resonate.

No matter what happens in the Buffy reboot, there will be catastrophic threats, and Willow is a powerhouse capable of dealing with almost anything. From an audience perspective, it would be more jarring to see a Slayer deal with whatever the show throws at her and not call the strongest witch available for help. But by far the coolest thing that Willow could do in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is fulfill a role similar to that of Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) in the original series.

I can think of nothing cooler than seeing Willow mentor the next generation of Slayers.

Mr. Giles was Buffy’s Watcher, and, in his youth, he was a powerful magic user in his own right. But the Watchers’ Council was destroyed in season 7, so Armstrong’s Slayer almost certainly won’t have a watcher of her own. Willow knows almost everything there is to know about Slayers, and she has had decades to learn more. I can think of nothing cooler than seeing Willow mentor the next generation of Slayers in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot.
