Candace Owens Defends Jimmy Kimmel Amid Their Feuds With President Donald Trump

Candace Owens is defending Jimmy Kimmel amid their respective feuds with President Donald Trump.

“What I enjoyed most without question was the absolute whiplash from Trump’s Truth Social post about me, followed almost immediately by their administration crying about the left’s rhetoric,” Owens, 37, said on a YouTube live stream on Wednesday, April 29.

She continued: “This tweet about the left’s rhetoric pertaining to Jimmy Kimmel — referring to him as hateful and violent — I got to stop you right there because this feels a little bit like people in glass houses.”

Kimmel, 58, recently made headlines for a monologue on his late night show which featured a 10-minute roast with a joke about how Melania Trump has a “glow like an expectant widow.”

Jimmy Kimmel caused controversy after quipping that first lady Melania Trump has a “glow like an expectant widow” days before the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. On the Thursday, April 23, episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel made the widow joke, which has not aged well after shots were fired during the event on Saturday, […]

The comedian was subsequently slammed by Melania, 56, and Donald, 79, after a shooting rattled the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, April 25. Melania described the joke as “hateful and violent rhetoric” that “is intended to divide our country,” while her husband called to have Kimmel fired.

“They’re going after Jimmy Kimmel, which I’m again angry at this [since it] is the second time that they’re going to make me defend Jimmy Kimmel,” Owens added on Thursday. “They are trying to assert … that it’s actually Jimmy Kimmel’s joke that is to blame for the White House Correspondents’ incident.”

Owens didn’t appreciate the apparent double standard.

“Trump would make a joke about something and then they’d all get out and pretend it was super serious,” she said. “It’s ironic because Jimmy Kimmel was a part of that syndicate of people that did this. And I said, ‘No.’ And I couldn’t stand Jimmy Kimmel. I still really don’t like Jimmy Kimmel, but they’re flipping it now on its head.”

The conservative commentator was surprised to be on Kimmel’s side. “They’re doing the thing where they pretend that a joke is existential,” she continued. “A clear and obvious joke is existential and now the source of shootings. That’s that. This happened because Jimmy Kimmel made a joke.”

Shortly before going after Kimmel, the president called out Owens and other conservative voices who have started to question his leadership.

“Tucker is a Low IQ person – Always easy to beat, and highly overrated!!! So are Megyn Kelly, ‘Candace’(Really Dumb and mentally ill!), and Bankrupt Alex Jones, who is completely ‘fried,’” he wrote via Truth Social on April 17. “There are others, also! Then we have some that are VERY GOOD, true MAGA all the way, and smart. I should do a list of good, bad, and somewhere in the middle. Wouldn’t that be fascinating???”

At the time, Owens poked fun at the post, writing, “Why is my name in quotation marks though?”

Owens later called out Donald for escalating their feud by sharing a doctored Time Magazine cover branding her “Vile Person of the Year.”

Kimmel, for his part, addressed the Trumps’ comments on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this week.

“Sometimes you wake up in the morning and the first lady puts out a statement demanding you be fired from your job. We’ve all been there, right?” he joked in his Jimmy Kimmel Live! monologue on Monday, April 27.
