पश्चिम बंगाल चुनाव में पानीहाटी सीट सबसे चर्चित मुकाबलों में से एक बनकर उभरी था, जहां देबनाथ का सामना टीएमसी उम्मीदवार तीर्थंकर घोष से था, जो एक बड़े नेता के बेटे हैं।

पनिहाटी टीएमसी का गढ़ माना जाता था, जिसे ढहा दिया गया। तृणमूल कांग्रेस को 15 साल के बाद हार मिली है। टीएमसी के अभेद्य किले में सेंधमारी करने वालीं रत्‍ना देबनाथ कोई राजनेता नहीं बल्‍क‍ि अपनी बेटी को इंसाफ दिलाने के लिए सियासी समर में उतरने वाली एक मां हैं। रत्‍ना देबनाथ ने 5 बार के विधायक अमृत घोष के बेटे तीर्थंकर घोष को करारी शिकस्त दी।

 

जब भाजपा ने रत्ना देबनाथ को प्रत्याशी के रूप में फाइनल किया तो उसी समय से उनकी जीत तय मानी जा रही थी। रत्ना देबनाथ की इस चुनाव में उम्मीदवारी ने महिलाओं के दिल में बड़ा प्रभाव डाला है। चुनाव प्रचार के दौरान जिस तरह से हर वर्ग की महिलाओं ने गले लगाकर आंसुओं की धारा बहाकर रत्ना का स्वागत कर इस लड़ाई में उनके साथ खड़ा होने का वादा किया, यह चुनाव में एक बड़ा फैक्टर साबित हुआ। इस बार किसी पार्टी का नहीं बल्कि एक मां होने के नाते महिलाओं ने एक मां का साथ देने का फैसला किया, जो चुनाव प्रचार में साफ दिख रहा था।

इस वर्ष विधानसभा चुनाव प्रचार में आरजी कर मेडिकल कॉलेज अस्पताल में महिला जूनियर डॉक्टर के साथ हुई हैवानियत की घटना को भाजपा ने जोरशोर से उठाया। चुनाव प्रचार के समय ही अलग-अलग पार्टी को सपोर्ट करने वाली महिलाओं ने एकजुट होकर इंसाफ की लड़ाई में रत्ना के साथ खड़ा होने का ऐलान किया। हर महिला ने ‘अभया’ को अपनी बेटी मानते हुए इस इंसाफ में खुद को रत्ना के साथ खड़ा कर दिया।
