CFP bracket: Ohio State remains on top while Alabama slides

Moments ago, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee released its third set of rankings for the year-end College Football Playoff. Heading into the night several questions loomed, including just how far Alabama would fall after last weekend’s loss to Oklahoma, just how thing the road was for Texas after their loss to Georgia, and what Group of 5 team would be in line for a spot if the playoffs began this weekend.

Alabama slid six spots down to No. 10 after their loss to the Sooners, while the Longhorns dropped all the way to No. 17, putting their College Playoff future in serious doubt. Texas needs to run the table — including a win over Texas A&M in their regular season finale — and perhaps get some help to get in.

Georgia moved up to No. 4 after their win over Texas, and Alabama’s loss.

At the back end of the Top 25, Tulane popped into the rankings at No. 24, and the Green Wave are certainly in the mix for the Group of 5 spot.

It is worth noting that Miami is currently in the bracket as the highest-ranked ACC team, but their path to the ACC Championship Game — and that spot in the field — is rather difficult. With a pair of conference losses (to Louisville and SMU) the Hurricanes are behind four teams (Georgia Tech, Virginia, Pittsburgh, and SMU) in the ACC standings. Either Miami gets a lot of help, or the Hurricanes have to get in as an at-large team.

Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe became the first runner to complete an official marathon in less than two hours as he broke the world record at the London Marathon on Sunday.

On a calm, sunny morning, the 31-year-old finished the marathon in one hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds. That crushed the previous record — set by Kenya’s Kelvin Kiptum in the 2023 Chicago Marathon — by 65 seconds.

“I am feeling good,” Sawe told BBC Sport. “I am happy. It is a day to remember for me.”

Shillong Lajong FC was held to a goalless draw by a resolute Dempo SC in its Indian Football League Championship Phase fixture at the SSA Stadium in Shillong on Sunday.

The result kept Shillong second in the table with 18 points, seven behind leader Diamond Harbour FC, while Dempo remained sixth with 10 points.
