CFP playoff bracket: Oregon moves up in latest rankings and Miami makes the bracket

The College Football Playoff Selection Committee just released their latest set of rankings.

And the updated bracket contains a few surprises.

Oregon moved ahead of Ole Miss after beating ranked USC. Ole Miss was idle this past week before they take on Mississippi State this Friday in the Egg Bowl. That was the only change inside the Top 10 from last week’s rankings.

As we wondered earlier today, Miami moved ahead of Utah to No. 12, as the Utes dropped down to No. 13. Utah needed a comeback effort to knock off 5-6 Kansas State this past weekend. Miami still remains four spots behind Notre Dame, a team the Hurricanes beat to open the season, but as the top-ranked ACC team they are now in the hypothetical bracket.

However, the Hurricanes will need a win this weekend over Pittsburgh — and a lot of help — just to make the ACC Championship Game. SMU and Virginia are the two teams most likely to reach the ACC title game.

In a world where the Hurricanes miss out on the ACC Championship Game, they’d need to find a way in as an at-large team. Sitting at No. 12, that might be difficult to do.

No. 11 BYU was the highest-ranked team left out of the bracket.

Tulane, ranked at No. 24, remains the representative from the Group of 5 conferences.

KL Rahul topped the Indian Premier League (IPL) run-scoring charts with a match-winning knock in ​Delhi Capitals’ (DC) seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals on Friday, ‌saying individual milestones mean more when they help ​the team win.

Rahul has been DC’s ⁠most consistent performer this season, registering three half-centuries and one century despite the team’s mixed results.

The 34-year-old struck 75 ‌off 40 balls, with six fours and five sixes, as DC snapped a three-match losing ‌streak and completed their highest successful run ‌chase ⁠of 226 in the IPL.

Rahul had earlier ⁠hit an unbeaten 152 in a defeat against Punjab Kings, a knock that drew praise but did not bring the desired ​result for the team.

“After ‌playing for so many years, numbers do matter,” Rahul said at the post-match presentation.

“You’re happy that you score runs and you score these big ‌runs and break records. But if you ​don’t get the win after the game, it’s not as much fun.”

Rahul has been ⁠in strong form this season and he credited it to work on maintaining a higher strike rate to ‌suit the demands of modern day T20 cricket.

While he is enjoying a good run in the tournament, he acknowledged that DC had slipped up in key moments despite pushing hard in earlier games.

“This competition and T20 cricket doesn’t allow you a ‌second chance,” he said.

“So it was important that we take ​our chances and when we’re ahead, really press hard and finish the game, which ⁠we weren’t doing.”

DC was also boosted by the return ⁠of Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who took three wickets in his first match of ‌the season after months on the sidelines with elbow and shoulder injuries.

Sixth-placed DC next faces Chennai ​Super Kings on Tuesday.
