Claudia Black Exits ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 Over Alleged Pay Disputes

The second season of Ahsoka has gotten another cast shakeup: Claudia Black, who played the Nightsister Klothow, won’t be back for the sophomore season.

First reported by Bleeding Cool and then corroborated by Deadline, the Farscape actor said she had to “bow out” when Disney “could not pay me what I needed to be paid as a single mother to keep all my responsibilities going at home in Los Angeles, because they were filming in London. It was not something that they could make happen.”

Black went on to call dropping out “very sad,” and said she was glad to be part of the franchise, “[working with] lovely people, lovely directors, interesting to work on ‘The Volume.’ Everyone like me who grew up in the 70s and 80s has always been into the Star Wars universe, and it’s a very playful environment to work in. I sent an email to Dave Filoni thanking him, and I said, ‘What a ride!’”

Klothow appeared with her fellow Nightsters Lakesis and Aktropaw—collectively known as the Great Mothers, and named after the Greek goddesses of Fate—in the back half of Ahsoka’s first season. The Mothers who reside on Peridea and have allied with  Grand Admiral Thrawn, use dark magick and claim to read the threads of fate and destiny. At the end of the season, they and Thrawn were en route to the planet Dathomir.

At time of writing, it’s unclear whether Black’s role will be recast or if Klothow will be absent for Ahsoka season two. The series previously recast the role of supporting antagonist Baylan Skoll with Rory McCann following the death of Ray Stevenson weeks before the series premiere in 2023.

Instructions designed to guide the behavior of the company’s latest model as it writes code have been revealed to include a line, repeated several times, that specifically forbids it from randomly mentioning an assortment of mythical and real creatures.

“Never talk about goblins, gremlins, raccoons, trolls, ogres, pigeons, or other animals or creatures unless it is absolutely and unambiguously relevant to the user’s query,” read instructions in Codex CLI, a command-line tool for using AI to generate code.

It is unclear why OpenAI felt compelled to spell this out for Codex—or indeed why its models might want to discuss goblins or pigeons in the first place. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

OpenAI’s newest model, GPT-5.5, was released with enhanced coding skills earlier this month. The company is in a fierce race with rivals, especially Anthropic, to deliver cutting-edge AI, and coding has emerged as a killer capability.

In response to a post on X that highlighted the lines, however, some users claimed that OpenAI’s models occasionally become obsessed with goblins and other creatures when used to power OpenClaw, a tool that lets AI take control of a computer and apps running on it in order to do useful things for users.

“I was wondering why my claw suddenly became a goblin with codex 5.5,” one user wrote on X.

“Been using it a lot lately and it actually can’t stop speaking of bugs as ‘gremlins’ and ‘goblins’ it’s hilarious,” posted another.

The discovery quickly became its own meme, inspiring AI-generated scenes of goblins in data centers, and plug-ins for Codex that put it in a playful “goblin mode.”
