Davies: “Doctor Who” Announcement Is Coming

BBC

A week ago, speculation was high regarding the future of The BBC’s “Doctor Who” following reports in the British tabloids that The BBC had either delayed or scrapped this December’s Christmas Special.

Russell T. Davies has written a Christmas episode, starring Billie Piper, that is due to be released this December and is expected to be a one-off in which she would transform into The Doctor’s next incarnation at the end.

The reports claimed that the big issue the production is facing is difficulty finding anyone to take on the role of the 16th Time Lord. The rumours swirled mostly because neither Davies nor the BBC was commenting on or denying these claims, both staying quiet.

Now, Davies has finally commented on it in a new interview for BBC Radio 2, saying some announcement is coming – one that requires a bunch of people to sign off on it:

“You will get an announcement…there’s a press release lumbering through the BBC, which, as you know, is like the Jurassic period. 57 people have to sign off on every single word. So, I promise you in about a week or two weeks, there will be some sort of press release.”

Intriguingly, there’s been nothing really in the way of rumours regarding who might take over the role.
