DC Will Soon Launch A New Shared Universe Led By A The Boys Star

DC‘s new shared universe will be led by a star from The Boys, this time playing a superhero. DC has many projects currently on the way. After the end of the DCEU movie franchise, the studio has turned to a new live-action shared universe, the DC Universe, which is led by DC Studios co-CEO’s James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The franchise began in December 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos. The DCU is a wide-spanning shared universe, with Gunn having revealed that actors will play their characters across live-action projects, animated releases, video games, and so on. While DC’s focus remains on the DCU Chapter One, with major heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman yet to debut, the shared universe is not the only franchise in place at the studio.

Gunn has already confirmed that multiple Elseworlds projects will continue to be made, existing outside the DCU canon. Those include the live-action The Batman movies and any spinoffs director Matt Reeves comes up with, the recently announced animated Batman: Knightfall trilogy, and more. Now, a 2026 Elseworlds DC release has taken the first steps towards a new shared universe, and a The Boys star is at its center.

My Adventures with Superman season 3 set the stage for the animated series to develop into a full-blown shared universe. That happened through the debut of Jessica Cruz in episode 2, “Mobile Suit Toyman.” The character only had a cameo role, but Jessica is set to play a bigger part in the franchise, leading the upcoming My Adventures with Green Lantern.

The Boys Is Helping DC Establish A Successful Shared Universe

Hughie (Jack Quaid) looking emotional while holding Billy Butcher’s (Karl Urban) hand in The Boys season 5

My Adventures with Green Lantern‘s Jessica Cruz is voiced by Auliʻi Cravalho, who many know as the star behind Disney’s Moana. While the teenager will soon get the chance to shine on her own, the character debuted in the already established My Adventures with Superman, the first project in this blossoming DC shared universe on TV. That animated series is led by Jack Quaid, who voices the franchise’s version of Clark Kent, aka Superman. Superhero fans will recognize the actor from another, more popular genre release, as Quaid gave life to Hughie Campbell on Prime Video’s The Boys.

The Boys is easily one of the biggest TV shows in recent years, going on a successful five-season run. The show served as Quaid’s big break, with the actor delivering an endlessly charismatic performance as Hughie, serving as the audience surrogate in this gritty world of evil superheroes. The Boys showed that Quaid had all the talent to anchor one of the genre’s best releases ever, and across three seasons of My Adventures with Superman, that has been confirmed through Quaid’s pitch-perfect role as a charming, hopeful, and funny Superman. He took on perhaps the biggest superhero ever and succeeded.

The “My Adventures with” shared universe might only be starting. That title lends itself well to spotlighting both major DC heroes and more obscure characters, as is the difference between Quaid’s Superman and Cravalho’s Jessica Cruz. If the franchise expands between just those two DC shows, then there is a good chance that more The Boys actors could join Quaid at DC. After all, several stars from Prime Video hit series have long been fancast as major DC heroes and villains. What better way to make that come true than in a DC shared universe led by a The Boys star?

Among the common requests are Homelander actor Antony Starr playing the evil Reverse-Flash, The Deep star Chace Crawford taking on the hilarious Booster Gold, Victoria Neuman actress Claudia Doumit becoming Talia al Ghul, Soldier Boy star Jensen Ackles as Batman, and more. The Boys franchise itself is also expanding with multiple spinoffs, with Ackles leading 2027’s Vought Rising, and The Boys: Mexico on the way. With Quaid as its lead, DC‘s new shared universe can continue to grow for years to come in parallel with The Boys universe.
