Deadpool Will Deface ‘Magic: The Gathering’ Classics for a New Secret Lair

Deadpool Will Deface ‘Magic: The Gathering’ Classics for a New Secret Lair

Usually when it comes to April Fool’s Day—sifting through the sea of increasingly infuriating branded jokes—a lot of the annoyance comes from people announcing things that aren’t actually things. So on the one hand, it’s nice that Magic: The Gathering‘s gag this year is at least something you can buy. On the other… well, it depends on how much you like Deadpool.

Today, Wizards of the Coast announced that it would celebrate “April Pool’s Day” with a new Secret Lair drop based entirely around Deadpool covering up a bunch of classic Magic staple cards—your Sol Rings, your Lightning Bolts, and so on—in his trademark comical stylings.

It’s a fun continuation of last year’s similarly timed April Fool’s drop—in which Deadpool not only got his own Commander card but was also joined by a series of cards featuring new artwork with the character, among others. This time, he’s more cheeky, actively presented as a chaotic force coming across these cards and marking them up as his own rather than simply being along for the brand synergy of it all. The time for serious Deadpool, as serious as him riding on a unicorn for Deadly Rollick can possibly be, is over.

As well as the standard and foil versions of the “I Fixed It (You’re Welcome)” set of cards, which features new variants of Lightning Bolt, Deadly Dispute, Sol Ring, Thrill of Possibility, and Lightning Greaves, there’ll also be a “Pool Party” version of the drop, featuring the same cards with tweaked artwork to include more party elements, right down to hats and confetti, and a different foil treatment.

It’s suitably goofy for an April Fools release, but there’ll no doubt be complaints that Wizards is double-dipping on Deadpool drops for the occasion instead of doing something different this year, especially as we’ll no doubt have plenty of Marvel-themed releases timed with the Marvel Super Heroes set due to release in June. Maybe that’s the real fool?

The Deadpool “I Fixed It (You’re Welcome)” set will cost $30 for the standard release, $40 for the foil variant, and $60 for the “Pool Party” variant. It’ll also be available in a bundle of all three sets for $125 unhelpfully titled the “FINAL_final_REALLYfinal_v7_USETHISONE(2)_Everything” bundle, and it all goes live on April 1.

Nintendo says that it’s “based” on the classic space shooter Star Fox 64, but with redesigned characters and upgraded visuals. Essentially, it sounds like a modern remake of the game with the same level design. Based on the first look at the game, it looks thoroughly modern, with incredibly detailed characters, including a surprisingly realistic Slippy Toad. And yes, the in-ship banter remains. In addition to flying ships, there will be a handful of other vehicles to pilot, including a submarine.

The Star Fox reboot also includes some new features, like online play for its new four-on-four dogfighting multiplayer battle mode, and the option to play with mouse controls. Perhaps the most surprising addition is the realistic character avatars that players can use during online play. Nintendo describes the features as an “interactive avatar that mirrors your expressions and movements in GameChat.” But if you’re looking for an old-school feel, the game does support the N64 controller.

The game will cost $49.99 digitally, according to Nintendo’s eShop listing. The physical price is expected to be different; Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, for example, has a $10 price difference between digital and physical.

You can watch the full Star Fox presentation, which lasts about 15 minutes, here:

The announcement comes as Nintendo has a relatively sparse lineup for the Switch 2 for the rest of 2026. Outside of Star Fox, the only first-party titles on the schedule are Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Rhythm Heaven Groove, Splatoon Raiders, and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.

Update May 6th: Added the digital price.
