Mandatory Credit: Corinne Votaw-Imagn Images Marco Rossi scored with 10 seconds left in overtime as the last-place Vancouver Canucks played the role of spoiler Sunday with a 4-3 victory over the host Anaheim Ducks, who needed a win to snap a seven-year playoff drought. Rossi rifled a slapshot past Ducks goalie Lukas Dostal after taking a pass from Jake DeBrusk for the Canucks’ second power-play goal of the contest. The Ducks’ (42-32-6, 90 points) next chance to punch their ticket to the postseason with a win will be Tuesday when they visit the Minnesota Wild. Goaltender Nikita Tolopilo made 24 saves for Vancouver, which improved to 24-48-8, with 56 points. Cutter Gauthier scored two goals, Leo Carlsson scored one and Chris Kreider added two assists for the Ducks, who were trying to punch their ticket to the postseason for the first time since 2018. Capitals 3, Penguins 0 Logan Thompson stopped 24 shots in his fourth shutout of the season and Connor McMichael scored a pair and added an assist in Washington’s victory over visiting Pittsburgh. Trevor van Riemsdyk added his third goal of the season for the Capitals, while Martin Fehervary assisted on a pair and Ryan Leonard, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Alex Ovechkin each added an assist. Bruins 3, Blue Jackets 2 Sean Kuraly scored and set up two others, leading Boston to a win over host Columbus. Boston clinched an Eastern Conference wild-card berth on Saturday. The first wild-card seed is still within reach with the Bruins battling the Senators for seeding. Henri Jokiharju and Mark Kastelic added a goal and a helper each for Boston, which swept the three-game season series against Columbus and snapped a five-game skid overall (0-3-2). Mason Marchment and Adam Fantilli responded for the Blue Jackets. With the loss, Columbus’ chances at the third seed in the Metropolitan Division took a substantial blow. Jet Greaves stopped 19 shots. Canadiens 4, Islanders 1 Nick Suzuki, Ivan Demidov and Alex Newhook scored in a 55-second span late in the second period for Montreal, which eliminated collapsed New York from playoff contention in Elmont, N.Y. Jacob Fowler made 30 saves while Zachary Bolduc scored with 14.7 seconds left in the third for the playoff-bound Canadiens, who maintained their hopes of winning the Atlantic Division or finishing second and earning home ice in the first round. The Canadiens are tied for first with the Buffalo Sabres, two points ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Montreal does not have the regulation wins tiebreaker over either team. Casey Cizikas scored in the third for the Islanders, who occupied a playoff spot for most of the season before losing nine of their past 13 (4-9-0). New York entered the weekend one point behind the third-place Philadelphia Flyers in the Metropolitan Division but had its hopes damaged in a 3-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators Saturday afternoon. Devils 4, Senators 3 (OT) Nico Hischier scored a power-play goal with 1:42 remaining in overtime and New Jersey earned a victory over Ottawa in Newark, N.J. Hischier collected two goals and an assist and finished off his fifth three-point game of the season by getting to the net after winning an offensive zone faceoff from Shane Pinto. Jack Hughes notched two assists to reach 50 assists for the second time in his career as the Devils improved to 14-7-1 in their past 22 games. Ottawa countered New Jersey’s early lead with three goals in a span of 6:32 during the second period. Reimer made 26 saves for the Senators, who saw a four-game winning streak stopped and are one point behind Boston for the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. If the teams finish tied, Ottawa would win the tiebreaker due to their 37 regulation wins. –Field Level Media #Deadspin #NHL #roundup #Ducks #playoff #hunt #loss #Canucks

Ayush Shetty needed more patience in Badminton Asia Championships final; can be in top five: Sagar Chopda <div id="content-body-70856216" itemprop="articleBody"><p>India’s impressive run in men’s singles at the Badminton Asia Championships fell short in the final, but Sagar Chopda, head coach at the Centre for Badminton Excellence, believes silver-medallist Ayush Shetty has the potential to reach the very top of the sport.</p><p>The Indian shuttler went down in straight games against World No. 2 Chinese Shi Yu Qi in Ningbo on Sunday.</p><p>“I believe Ayush has the potential to be a top-five player in the world. We’ve always believed he can become a true champion,” Chopda told <i>PTI </i>after the 20-year-old won silver at the continental meet.</p><p>“We just need to be patient, but he definitely has the potential to reach that level,” he added.</p><p>Shetty’s campaign ended against home favourite Shi, with Chopda pointing to a key area that could have made a difference.</p><p>“He probably needed to be a little more patient. At times, he went for outright winners a bit too early, and many of those shots either went out or ended up in Shi’s hitting zone.</p><p>“Shi didn’t give him many opportunities, and at this level you have to make the most of whatever chances you get,” he said.</p><p>Despite the loss, the unseeded Shetty’s run, which included victories over Li Shi Feng, Jonatan Christie and Kunlavut Vitidsarn, marked a significant breakthrough after a string of early exits earlier in the season.</p><p>Chopda revealed that a back injury had disrupted Shetty’s preparation at the start of the year, forcing him into rehabilitation instead of building fitness. The turnaround, he said, came down to belief.</p><p>“At the start of the season, Ayush had a slight back injury, so he had to focus on rehab for about four to five weeks. That affected his preparation.</p><p>“The biggest plus this week was belief. He felt fitter, stronger and didn’t check himself. He showed great patience in long rallies, which is crucial at this level,” he said.</p><p>The coach, who trains Shetty in Bengaluru, also credited work behind the scenes, including sessions with a sports psychologist, for the player’s improved mental strength during the tournament.</p><p>While the results underline his rapid rise, Chopda was quick to point out areas that still need refinement.</p><p>“Endurance is still a work in progress. Ayush needs to get much fitter, although he is improving. He has been doing a lot of off-court sessions with the trainers and physios.</p><p>“Being a tall player, his movement has improved, especially side-to-side and in defence, but there is still room for improvement,” Chopda said.</p><p>Shetty has also begun working with Indonesian coach Irwansyah Adi Pratama, a move Chopda believes will benefit him in the long run.</p><p>“He has been the national coach of the Indonesian side when players like Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting were at their peak, so having someone like him on board is going to be helpful for Ayush,” Chopda noted.</p><p>Given his height and playing style, comparisons with two-time Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen have already begun, something Chopda acknowledged.</p><p>“Because he’s so tall, he’s always been compared to Viktor Axelsen. In fact, he’s gone and trained with him a couple of times,” Chopda said.</p><p>“Viktor has mentioned that he sees similarities and that Ayush reminds him of his younger days.” However, Chopda was quick to add that there is still ground to cover.</p><p>“He has a strong net game and a big hit, but he needs to develop more variation, half-smashes, softer drops to become even more dangerous at this level.” Looking ahead with the World Championships and Asian Games in sight, consistency remains the key focus.</p><p>“Consistency is key. He has a lot of expectations from himself, and that probably added pressure in previous tournaments,” he said.</p><p>“He needs to consistently reach the later stages of tournaments and aim for podium finishes. Winning a big title and doing well at events like the World Championships and Asian Games should be his targets.”</p><p>“He has a big smash and a strong net game, but he needs to add more control, half-smashes, softer drops and better variation to consistently win at this level.</p><p>Chopda also pointed out that while Shetty had shown promise earlier, including during a title run at the U.S. Open, sustaining that level will be the real challenge.</p><p>“This tournament will give him a lot of confidence, but he needs to keep delivering so that people continue to notice him,” he added.</p><p class="publish-time" id="end-of-article">Published on Apr 13, 2026</p></div> #Ayush #Shetty #needed #patience #Badminton #Asia #Championships #final #top #Sagar #Chopda

For the past 10 months, our organization has fully cooperated with an NBA investigation, participating in dozens of interviews, providing tens of thousands of documents, and facilitating access to our staff. While the process has been challenging, we have remained committed to transparency.

On June 30, we reached an agreement in principle to trade Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors. We have since been informed that the trade can only be finalized if the Raptors’ ownership group assumes the risk of penalties related to Kawhi’s contract that could theoretically result from the ongoing investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and we expect the trade to be finalized following its conclusion.

At the heart of this investigation are Joe Sanberg and Aspiration. We did not funnel money to Kawhi Leonard through Aspiration. Like many sophisticated investors, financial institutions, and business partners, we were victims of a fraud initiated by Sanberg, who has been convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison.

We recognize the uncertainty this has created and the impact it has had on our team, our fans, the Raptors organization, their fans, and the players whose futures remain affected while this process continues.

We remain confident that, when the facts are evaluated fairly and thoroughly, the NBA will confirm exactly what we have said from the beginning: We have not done what we are accused of doing.

TG20 Eliminator:

For the first time this season, Hyderabad e-Champions blinked. And Khammam Aces seized the moment with both hands, riding Mickil Jaiswal’s electrifying unbeaten 76 to snap e-Champions’ unbeaten streak and storm into the TG20 final with a 10-run victory in Qualifier 1 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday..

Asked to bat, Aces stumbled early, losing two wickets in the PowerPlay. G. Sai Krishna Reddy steadied the innings with a composed knock, guiding his side to 87 for three at the halfway mark before Jaiswal ignited the charge. The right-hander raced to a 26-ball fifty and dominated the closing stages, smashing 71 of the 98 runs plundered in the final eight overs as Aces surged to 200 for six.

e-Champions threatened through the PowerPlay despite losing Abhirath Reddy early, racing to 71 for one. But once the field spread, Aces’ bowlers tightened the screws. Sai Vikas Reddy fought a lone battle with a gritty half-century, but disciplined bowling choked the chase, handing e-Champions their first defeat of the season.

Karimnagar Diamonds knocks out Ranga Reddy RisersCometh the hour, cometh the man. And once again, Tanmay Agarwal answered the call.He smashed a scintillating century, his second in as many matches and third of the TG20 season, to power Karimnagar Diamonds to a commanding 75-run win over Ranga Reddy Risers in the Eliminator at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday, booking its place in Qualifier 2.Tanmay set the tone from the outset. He and Satwik Reddy raced to 29 in three overs before Satwik fell to T. Arun Kumar. Unfazed, Tanmay tore into Aryan Cariappa for 27 runs in an over, lifting Diamonds to 75 for one in the PowerPlay. The skipper reached his fifty in 24 balls and then shared a match-defining 69-ball 139-run stand with Hrishikesh Simha. His century came in just 48 balls, putting Risers firmly on the back foot. Nitin Sai Yadav broke the partnership by dismissing both set batters, sparking a late collapse as Diamonds lost five wickets for 28 runs to finish on 238 for seven.Risers’ chase faltered immediately with Aaron George falling in the first over. Though Tanay Thyagarajann and Aditya Javvaji counterattacked to take the score to 72 for two in the PowerPlay, Ashish Srivastav’s twin strikes in the seventh over swung the contest decisively. T.V.S. Narayana Teja then removed Venkat Karthik to deepen the damage.Tanay’s 26-ball fifty and a brisk 48-run stand with Nitin Sai Yadav briefly revived hopes, but Shubham Sharma ended the resistance by dismissing Tanay. Nitin reached a fighting half-century, but it was only a consolation as Ashish Srivastav’s five-fer ensured Risers folded meekly.Diamonds and e-Champions will face off in Friday’s Qualifier 2.

Karimnagar Diamonds knocks out Ranga Reddy Risers

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. And once again, Tanmay Agarwal answered the call.

He smashed a scintillating century, his second in as many matches and third of the TG20 season, to power Karimnagar Diamonds to a commanding 75-run win over Ranga Reddy Risers in the Eliminator at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday, booking its place in Qualifier 2.

Tanmay set the tone from the outset.

Nitin Sai Yadav broke the partnership by dismissing both set batters, sparking a late collapse as Diamonds lost five wickets for 28 runs to finish on 238 for seven.

Risers’ chase faltered immediately with Aaron George falling in the first over. Though Tanay Thyagarajann and Aditya Javvaji counterattacked to take the score to 72 for two in the PowerPlay, Ashish Srivastav’s twin strikes in the seventh over swung the contest decisively. T.V.S. Narayana Teja then removed Venkat Karthik to deepen the damage.

Tanay’s 26-ball fifty and a brisk 48-run stand with Nitin Sai Yadav briefly revived hopes, but Shubham Sharma ended the resistance by dismissing Tanay. Nitin reached a fighting half-century, but it was only a consolation as Ashish Srivastav’s five-fer ensured Risers folded meekly.

Diamonds and e-Champions will face off in Friday’s Qualifier 2.

My vision is to see Hyderabad hosting Olympics in 2036: T’gana CM

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday said that his vision is to see Hyderabad hosting the Olympics in 2036.

Speaking at the launch of the logo and website of Young India Physical Education and Sports University (YIPESU) here, he said sports policy should be formulated first, followed by the establishment of training institutes, academies and other institutions.

The state government is keen on establishing such institutions, he said.

Telangana had no sports policy during the last 12 years (during the previous BRS regime), he said.

Recalling that Hyderabad had hosted the Afro-Asian Games and Military World Games during 1999-2004, he said no such major events were held in Hyderabad in the last two decades.

The sports infrastructure, including sports stadiums, built in Hyderabad during undivided Andhra Pradesh, was used for organising marriages and political programmes in the last several years, which is unfortunate, he said.

“I have decided to revive sports culture in Hyderabad, Telangana. In 2036, India wants to host the Olympics. We are preparing our state, our Hyderabad to host the Olympics. That’s my dream,” he said.

It feels sad to see India, a country with a population of 140 crore, not winning medals in world sports events like the Olympics, he said.

The state government has initiated the sports university in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, with the government acting only as a facilitator.

The board of the university comprises industrialists and sports personalities, including Kapil Dev and Abhinav Bindra, he said.

He sought the support of Indian Olympic Association president P T Usha, who was present on the occasion, in promoting sports in Hyderabad.

He also said that Telangana would host the Khelo India Games in November this year.

He said the sports university would come up in 82 acres and that he would inaugurate the university by December, 2028.

Meanwhile, a government statement said Telangana would host the 8th Edition of Khelo Youth Games 2026 and the National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet (NIDJAM).

The state would also play host to the Hockey India League, World Pickleball League, Archery Premium League, Tennis Premier League, it said.

In 2036, India wants to host the Olympics. We are preparing our state, our Hyderabad to host the Olympics. That’s my dream,” he said.It feels sad to see India, a country with a population of 140 crore, not winning medals in world sports events like the Olympics, he said. The state government has initiated the sports university in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, with the government acting only as a facilitator. The board of the university comprises industrialists and sports personalities, including Kapil Dev and Abhinav Bindra, he said.He sought the support of Indian Olympic Association president P T Usha, who was present on the occasion, in promoting sports in Hyderabad. He also said that Telangana would host the Khelo India Games in November this year.He said the sports university would come up in 82 acres and that he would inaugurate the university by December, 2028.Meanwhile, a government statement said Telangana would host the 8th Edition of Khelo Youth Games 2026 and the National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet (NIDJAM).The state would also play host to the Hockey India League, World Pickleball League, Archery Premium League, Tennis Premier League, it said.-PTIPublished on Jul 09, 2026 #Indian #sports #wrap #July #Aces #TG20 #final #Indian #teams #lose #Archery #World #Cup
