Ryan Shea and Bryan Rust each registered a goal and an assist, and the Pittsburgh Penguins pulled away for a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night in St. Paul, Minn.

Ben Kindel and Anthony Mantha also scored for Pittsburgh, which earned at least one point for the eighth game in a row. The Penguins improved to 6-0-2 during that span.

Kirill Kaprizov scored Minnesota’s lone goal. The Wild remained winless for the fifth game in a row, and they dropped to 1-5-3 in their past nine contests.

Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped 26 of 27 shots to earn the victory.

Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson allowed three goals on 33 shots.

Minnesota opened the scoring midway through the first period. Marcus Johansson carried the puck into the offensive zone and snapped a pass to Kaprizov, who punched in a shot from the left side of the crease for his team-leading seventh goal.

The Penguins pulled even at 1-1 with 17:42 remaining in the second period. Shea spotted a loose puck and fired a slap shot from the left circle for the goal.

Shea assisted on the Penguins’ go-ahead goal a little more than four minutes later. He flipped a long pass to Rust, who scored from the right side of the crease to make it 2-1.

Pittsburgh added a power-play goal to increase its lead to 3-1 with 12:30 to go in the third period. Kindel tracked a bouncing puck in front of the crease and slapped in a goal.

The Wild pulled their goaltender for an extra skater in the final minutes, but the plan backfired. Mantha scored an empty-net goal to put the Penguins on top 4-1 with 2:42 remaining.

Minnesota finished 0-for-4 on the power play. The Penguins were 1-for-1 on the man advantage.

Pittsburgh center Sidney Crosby finished with a plus-1 rating but did not register a point. He won 10 faceoff attempts, which was the most by any player on either team.

The atmosphere was electric inside the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi a fortnight ago, when India secured a splendid victory over Hong Kong China in the AFC Asian Cup qualifier.

It may have been a dead rubber as neither had any chance of qualification, but the match was an exciting affair, and it provided great joy to a crowd of more than 22,000.

Kerala Blasters FC will hope its fans, too, will come in large numbers for its Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 match against NorthEast United on Wednesday.

Deadspin | Astros take advantage of Rockies’ errors to snap 8-game skid Apr 14, 2026; Houston, Texas, USA; Houston Astros first baseman Christian Walker (8) hits a home run during the second inning against the Colorado Rockies at Daikin Park. Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-Imagn Images Christian Walker recorded three hits and a pair of RBIs, and the Houston Astros parlayed a six-run third inning into a 7-6 victory over the visiting Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. The Astros snapped an eight-game losing skid, their longest since 2013, with the win. The Rockies, who swept a three-game set from Houston last week, suffered their fifth straight loss. Houston took advantage of two fielding errors by Rockies second baseman Willi Castro to chase right-hander Michael Lorenzen (1-2) in the bottom of the third. Castro dropped an infield pop-up from Jose Altuve after Christian Vazquez opened the third with a double. Lorenzen balked both runners into scoring position and Yordan Alvarez followed with a game-tying, two-run double down the right-field line. Walker, whose solo homer in the second shaved the deficit to 3-1, added a fielder’s choice grounder that plated Alvarez. Cam Smith and Vazquez added RBI singles that pushed the Astros to a 7-3 lead after Carlos Correa scored when Castro failed to field a sharp grounder from Joey Loperfido. Lorenzen allowed seven runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings. Hunter Goodman recorded his sixth career multi-homer game, with his second blast leading off the fifth and drawing the Rockies to within 7-5. Troy Johnston delivered a pinch-RBI single in the eighth, but Astros reliever Enyel De Los Santos faced one batter and stranded runners on the corners to close the ninth for his first save this season. The Rockies pounced on Astros left-hander Colton Gordon, who made his season debut for injury-ravaged Houston. Colorado rallied with the bases loaded and two outs in both the first and second innings, with Goodman smacking his third homer of the season for a 1-0 lead in the first. An inning later, after Gordon retired TJ Rumfield and Ezequiel Tovar to open the second, Jordan Beck and Kyle Karros laced consecutive two-out singles before Jake McCarthy delivered a two-run triple to straightaway center that extended the Colorado lead to 3-0. Gordon did not survive the fourth. He surrendered a two-out solo homer to Beck before loading the bases and ceding the mound to reliever AJ Blubaugh, who induced pinch hitter Mickey Moniak to hit an inning-ending infield popup. –Field Level Media #Deadspin #Astros #advantage #Rockies #errors #snap #8game #skidApr 14, 2026; Houston, Texas, USA; Houston Astros first baseman Christian Walker (8) hits a home run during the second inning against the Colorado Rockies at Daikin Park.
