The Seattle Seahawks signed running back Cam Akers to the 53-man roster on Wednesday, while safety Quandre Diggs returned to the organization after signing to the practice squad.

The Seahawks also added cornerback Shaquill Griffin and linebacker Patrick O’Connell to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. Cornerback Derion Kendrick was waived and linebacker Chazz Surratt (ankle) was placed on injured reserve.

Seattle (8-3) is in second place in the NFC West with a home game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Akers, 26, was released by the Vikings on Saturday. In three games with Minnesota this season, Akers ran for 19 yards on five carries. The former member of the Los Angeles Rams now returns to the NFC West after 2,044 yards and 13 touchdowns in 56 career games (17 starts) over six seasons.

Diggs, 32, played five seasons with the Seahawks from 2019-23, recording 345 tackles and 18 interceptions over 72 games (all starts). In 11 NFL seasons, including five with the Detroit Lions and the past two with the Tennessee Titans, he has 652 tackles and 24 interceptions over 154 games (124 starts).

Diggs was waived by the Titans on Nov. 7.

Griffin, 30, has seven tackles in two games during his return to the Seahawks this season. He played his first four NFL seasons in Seattle, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2019. In nine NFL seasons with five different teams, he has 414 tackles with nine interceptions in 108 games (83 starts).

O’Connell, 26, has 16 tackles in nine games over the past three seasons with the Seahawks.

The San Diego Padres reinstated right-hander Jeremiah Estrada from the 15-day injured list on Friday.

The 27-year-old reliever has been sidelined for the past three weeks with right elbow tendinitis.


Estrada is 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA in seven games this season with eight strikeouts and five walks in seven innings.

The Padres cleared room on the roster by optioning right-hander David Morgan to Triple-A El Paso.

Morgan, 26, is 2-0 with a 6.08 ERA in 11 appearances, striking out 15 and walking 11 in 13 1/3 innings.

The St. Louis Cardinals bolstered their bullpen in advance of a visit from the Los Angeles Dodgers by recalling left-hander Jared Shuster from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

In a corresponding move, right-hander Hunter Dobbins was optioned to Memphis following his Cardinals debut Thursday when he gave up three runs on two hits and five walks over 4 1/3 innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Shuster, 27, had a 4.91 ERA in two appearances earlier this season with St. Louis. He has an 8.38 ERA over five appearances at Triple-A.


In parts of four major league seasons, Shuster is 6-8 with a 5.26 ERA in 64 appearances (17 starts) for the Atlanta Braves (2023), Chicago White Sox (2024-25) and Cardinals.

The Cardinals’ bullpen has a 5.15 ERA this season, which ranked 26th in the major leagues heading into play on Friday.

The Cardinals finished off a four-game sweep at Pittsburgh on Thursday and now open a three-game home series against the two-time defending champion Dodgers, who are 5-7 since April 18.
