As of Tuesday, eight LIV Golf players reportedly have been unable to fly out of the Middle East ahead of this week’s tournament in Hong Kong.

Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Sam Horsfield, Anirban Lahiri, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk, Caleb Surratt and Lee Westwood were practicing in Dubai before Saturday’s U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran led to canceled flights and airport closures throughout the region, Flushing It reported.

Golf Channel exchanged text messages with Surratt, 21, who plays for the LIV Golf team Legion XIII.

“(The) world just came undone on Saturday,” Surrat wrote on Tuesday morning. “It was terrifying. But since then, it’s been OK. It was bad Sunday and Monday here with missile interceptions, but all day today was fine.”

Surratt described Tuesday in Dubai as “totally normal life, people walking around and such.”

Surratt and other golfers are trying to catch a flight out of Dubai or perhaps from Muscat, in neighboring Oman, in time for the start of the Hong Kong tournament Thursday. The league has reserve players who could potentially substitute in if needed.

The U.S. State Department has urged American citizens to leave the region, however CNN reported Tuesday that a “wide corridor of airspace” in the Middle East remains closed to air traffic.

Westwood, Horsfield and Canter are teammates on the Majesticks. McKibbin is also part of Legion XIII, while Meronk plays for Cleeks GC, Detry for the 4Aces and Lahiri for Crushers GC.

However, in the seventh inning, the sparse crowd started chanting the name of the new hero in town, Jordan Walker. He had just hit his major-league-leading eighth home run, and the fans were showing their appreciation.

The 23-year-old will try to help the Cardinals beat the visiting Guardians on Tuesday night in the second contest of a three-game series.

Walker’s homer total after 16 games puts him in high Cardinals company with Scott Rolen in 2004, Mark McGwire in 1998 and Stan Musial in 1954, each of whom hit eight in their first 16 games in those seasons.

Mikel Arteta has challenged Arsenal to play with “pure fire” as it looks to bounce back from a series of damaging defeats in Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon.

Arteta’s side can reach the semifinals of the competition for a second successive season if it finishes off Sporting at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners go into the quarterfinal second leg with a 1-0 lead after last week’s game in Lisbon.

But that narrow success was Arsenal’s only victory in its last four matches, with three defeats sparking claims Arteta and his team are choking as the pressure mounts at the business end of the season.

“There is no fear. Pure fire. That’s it. Me, the first one. Pure fire. That’s what I want to see on the players, on the people, on myself,” he insisted at his pre-match press conference.

On Monday, the Houston Astros completed a 10-game road trip so nightmarish that a starting pitcher allowing six earned runs over laborious six innings essentially represented a high point.

The Astros dropped the finale of a four-game series with the Seattle Mariners 6-2 on Monday, extending their losing streak to eight games, the longest for the club since 2013. Houston, which will host the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game series, placed five players on the injured list during the road trip, including three members of its starting rotation.

With ace Hunter Brown and fellow right-handers Cristian Javier and Tatsuya Imai on the IL, the Astros’ rotation is in flux. Only Mike Burrows, who worked six innings on Monday, and Lance McCullers Jr., who didn’t escape the fifth inning on Saturday, remain in the rotation. Despite being in an early stage of the season, the Astros are in desperate need of a reset.

“This is a road trip that’s one to forget,” Astros manager Joe Espada said. “We’ve got to go home and start all over again.”

Left-hander Colton Gordon, recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, is scheduled to start the series opener for the Astros. He made his big league debut on May 14, 2025, against the Kansas City Royals, but did not factor into the decision of the Astros’ 4-3 victory after allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings.
