Diego Luna joins the cast of Disney’s live-action Tangled movie

THR reports that Diego Luna (Andor) has joined the cast of Disney’s upcoming live-action Tangled movie. We don’t know who he will be playing as the role was created specifically for the movie. Production is slated to kick off in Spain in June.

Who Else Stars in Tangled?

Teagan Croft (Titans) will play Rapunzel, and Milo Manheim (Zombies) will play Flynn Rider. Not the most well-known names, but they could rise to instant stardom should the film take off. For every Snow White, there’s a Lilo & Stitch, which grossed over $1 billion last year.

Kathryn Hahn (Agatha All Along) will play Mother Gothel, the villainous witch who keeps Rapunzel imprisoned.

Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) is directing the live-action film, which will feature significant musical elements, much like the original movie. Jennifer Laytin Robinson (I Know What You Did Last Summer) penned the script.

Based on the retelling of the Rapunzel fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, the original Tangled told the story of a long-lost princess (Mandy Moore) desperate to leave the confines of her isolated tower. But when a runaway thief (Zachary Levi) stumbles upon her, she leaves to experience a world which she has never seen.

Disney’s Next Live-Action Movie

Disney loves giving their animated classics the live-action treatment, and the next to receive this “honour” is Moana. Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui, this time wearing a questionable wig and 40 lbs of prosthetics, alongside Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana; John Tui as Moana’s no-nonsense father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams, who portrays Moana’s playful and strong-willed mother, Sina; and Rena Owen as Moana’s revered Gramma Tala.

At CinemaCon, Johnson explained why he wanted to do a live-action version of the animated film, saying, “There’s something special and important [when] you take animation into live-action. We’re able to showcase our Pacific island, real people, and it’s humbling and inspiring all at once.

Thomas Kail (Hamilton) directs the film, with Jared Bush, who wrote the animated original, returning to pen the screenplay for the live-action remake alongside Dana Ledoux Miller. The film is set to hit theaters on July 10.
