We’re taking the phrase “be a doll” to a whole new level with doll makeup.
From Bratz to Blythe dolls, we’re doing our makeup to match our favorite toys, whether we mean to or not. While the trend has been popular among avid collectors for years, doll-inspired makeup has officially permeated the mainstream. It’s all in the details; the white eyeliner and clustered eyelashes that make the eyes pop, the picturesque pink blush and bright highlighter, and the sheen of our favorite foundations. Sure, you may not wear them all at once, but even just one can make you feel all dolled up.
On TikTok, a community of doll enthusiasts and collectors has been thriving. There, among videos of collection tours and rare hauls, you’ll see viral videos of users recreating their dolls’ makeup, like the signature Bratz lined lip and cool-toned eyeliner. Or, the Blythe doll’s round eyes, deep blush, and pouty lips. With the popularity of the Barbie movie, Bratz’ buzzy pop culture spoofs, and the viral buzz of Blythe, it was only a matter of time before doll-inspired style made its way into the mainstream, too.
Kate Madden, daughter of Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, brought the look to the red carpet by lining her eyes with a bright white. The eyeliner makes the eyes pop, just like a Blythe doll. Similarly, Lilly Lashes collaborated with Bratz, dropping a line of falsies with super long eyelashes in shapes that lift the eyes.

The trend has even made its way to Fashion Week. At the Vetements show, North West opted for an almost porcelain bright pink blush. The pop of blush is something Olandria Carthen and makeup artist Ngozi Edeme have made their signature, as seen in their recent campaign with Brandon Blackwood. Edeme also did Manon Bannerman’s makeup for the recent Jacquemus show. To match her bright yellow bralette and skirt, she wore an ultra glowy highlighter, making her skin shine. (She went on to up the ante for her evening look.)
