Edwin Díaz’s Dodgers debut was more electric than expected

When the Los Angeles Dodgers added closer Edwin Díaz this offseason, they locked down the back end of their bullpen, which was an issue for them at times during the 2025 season.

They also set the stage for one of baseball’s most dramatic entrances shifting to the West Coast.

Díaz made his Dodgers debut on Friday night, entering in the ninth inning to close out a 5-4 game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and his entrance was as electric as ever. Not only did he come out of the bullpen to Timmy Trumpet’s “Narco,” the song Díaz used while closing games for the Mets at Citi Field, but he was accompanied by a live trumpet player, Los Angeles artist Tatiana Tate:

Díaz kept the crowd electrified as he struck out two of the four batters he faced, for his first save in Dodgers blue:

After the game, both Díaz and manager Dave Roberts talked about the entrance, and the save.

“I was surprised a little bit,” said Díaz about Tate’s performance. “I heard a trumpet sounding before I was coming out. I said, ‘No way, they got a live trumpet.’ It was pretty fun. I enjoyed it, and I know fans enjoyed, too.”

“I got word that there might be a trumpet player,” said Roberts. “That was great. I was hoping to get him in there, and it worked out, and he performed. I think the fans got what they were hoping for.”

Friday night, Dodgers fans got exactly what they were hoping for, and more.

There was not even a whisper of an apology, let alone an unconditional apology. Even otherwise, an unconditional apology, unlike the holy water from the Ganges, cannot purify the respondents, specifically Bhola Nath Singh, of his conscious, concerted, deliberate and willful disobedience of the Court’s directions,” the court stated in the judgement.

It held that the manner in which Hockey India and Singh conducted himself through the course of the present proceedings amounted to a clear case of contempt of court.

Stating that non-compliance of court orders by a National Sports Federation, which functions under the aegis of and receives funds from the State, was no less than an administrative sin, the court concluded, “This Court finds the respondents, and specifically Bhola Nath Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India, guilty of committing contempt of Court, by willfully disobeying/not complying with the order dated 17.01.2025”.

The order of January 17, 2025, was passed on a petition by Asima for the removal of Singh from the post of secretary general of Hockey India.

As an interim direction, the court asked Hockey India officials to provide the requisite links to the petitioner to enable her to participate in all executive board meetings.

Sony Pictures Networks India has secured the exclusive broadcast rights for the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, scheduled to be held in Japan from September 19-October 4.

As per the deal, the continental showpiece will be telecast on Sony Sports Network channels and streamed on Sony LIV across India and the subcontinent. This will be the third consecutive time that the broadcasting giant will show the Asian Games in India.

“India’s historic performance at the last edition, where the nation crossed the 100-medal milestone (India won 107 medals) for the first time, has ignited unprecedented interest in multi-sport events,” Rajesh Kaul, Chief Revenue Officer and Business Head – Sports and International, SPNI said in a release.

The Asian Games, one of the biggest multi-sport events globally, will feature 41 disciplines, including 32 Olympic sports, with new additions such as mixed martial arts and surfing.

It is scheduled to take place at the Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya in Japan between September 19 to October 4.
