Everyone Is Obsessed With The New Andaz One Bangkok’s Postcode And It’s Easy To See Why

More than a century ago, the plot of land now occupied by One Bangkok was a vast expanse of rice paddies known as Tung Saladaeng but it was so remote it almost didn’t make it to the map of Bangkok.

But in 1914, something historical happened. The Saladaeng Radiotelegraph Station was inaugurated, becoming a cornerstone of Thailand’s early communication infrastructure. It introduced wireless communication to Thailand, marking a pivotal moment of modernisation, and established the country’s first direct communication link to Europe. The station was so defining it later was renamed Witthayu – “Wireless Road.”

Then came One Bangkok. More than a century after the station first began operating, the foundations of the radiotelegraph station, its 60-metre radio mast, and everyday artefacts buried beneath the ground were rediscovered during construction. Rather than pave over this heritage, the developers chose to honour it. They excavated, conserved, and revealed the site’s history by reconstructing the long-lost building and establishing a permanent exhibition – The Wireless House.
