Fetty Wap is officially out of prison, and he’s stepping into 2026 with a renewed focus and a message of gratitude. After serving more than three years of a six-year sentence related to a drug trafficking conviction, the Grammy-nominated rapper was released early and is now under supervised confinement at home in Philadelphia.

The rapper, whose legal name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, confirmed his release publicly with a simple post on Instagram Stories that read, “Home.” Later, in a statement shared with media outlets, Fetty Wap expressed heartfelt thanks to his family, friends, and fans for their unwavering support during his time behind bars.

Fetty Wap’s legal troubles began in October 2021, when he was arrested alongside others in connection with a large-scale drug trafficking ring that prosecutors said moved more than 100 kilograms of controlled substances, including cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine, from the West Coast to the New York and New Jersey markets.

In August 2022, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances. In May 2023, a federal judge sentenced him to six years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.

Though initially expected to serve far longer, his release was moved up. On January 8, 2026, Fetty Wap walked out of a federal facility in Minnesota, closing a chapter that had loomed over his career and life for years.

Gratitude and a Vision for Change

In statements issued upon his release, Fetty Wap didn’t focus on the past — he looked forward. He thanked supporters for their “love, prayers, and continued support,” and said their encouragement “truly means everything to me.”

He also revealed his intention to turn his attention toward community outreach:

“Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation, supporting at-risk young children by expanding access to education, early tech skills, and vision care for young kids and students so they can show up as their best selves.”

The rapper’s shift in focus reflects a desire to make a positive impact beyond music, and beyond the headlines tied to his legal troubles.

Life After Bars: Supervision and Structure

While Fetty Wap is physically free, his sentence continues in a different form. According to reports, he is now under home confinement and subject to strict federal supervision through 2026. This includes regular check-ins and other conditions typical of supervised release.

This means while he isn’t in jail, Fetty Wap’s freedom comes with guidelines designed to support reintegration while still holding him accountable.

Fetty Wap’s early release is being met with both relief and curiosity from fans and the music world alike. As he looks to reshape his narrative from behind the mic to community halls and tech workshops, one thing is clear: this is a moment of transition, potentially transformation, for a rapper who has lived life very much in the spotlight.

Most fans know Fetty Wap for chart-topping hits like “Trap Queen,” “My Way,” and “679,” songs that soundtracked the mid-2010s and helped define a generation of hip-hop and R&B.
