Hunter Schafer still rumored to be in for Mystique role in X-Men reboot

According to a new rumor, the Kinds of Kindness actress is still the top contender to play the role of Mystique in the X-Men reboot.

Renowned scooper My Time To Shine Hello (MTTSH) recently took to X (formerly Twitter) and stated, “Hunter Schafer is still being considered for the role of Mystique in the X-MEN reboot.”

In February last year, MTTSH was the first to report that Hunter Schafer is being eyed for the role. However, since then, Marvel has not made any confirmations regarding the same.

Meanwhile, Schafer also reacted and expressed her excitement to the fan castings while speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2025. She conveyed, “I did see! My dad texted me about that, yeah. Yeah, that would be cool.” She added that the fan castings are “very sweet,” and she is fond of the aforementioned character.

In July 2025, Marvel boss Kevin Feige announced that Jake Schreier will direct the X-Men reboot. He said, “It’s official, Jake Schreier is doing X-Men for us, and we’re very, very lucky. And we’re very, very lucky to have him and very excited to have him.”

Furthermore, Schreier had a chat with MovieWeb in April 2026 and conveyed, “I would say that we are aiming to do something that feels like a fresh start and going for something that feels new. And, really, something that Kevin has pushed for is this idea of, ‘What can we do within this world?’ It’s such a massive world.”

Nevertheless, Hunter Schafer being a contender to essay Mystique in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot is still just speculation, as neither the actress nor the studio has commented on it.
