July has finally arrived, bringing the month that die-hard anime fans have eagerly awaited, thanks to the highly anticipated final arc of a genre-defining franchise, now with a confirmed release date. Recently, we reported that this anime was surpassed by an upcoming title as Japan’s most anticipated summer 2026 anime, based on a marketing survey. However, it still ranked second, making it the most anticipated returning anime of the year, a noteworthy achievement given this summer’s lineup of major titles.
Regarding the survey, the fourth and final season of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, titled The Calamity, received 110 votes but was edged out by Science SARU’s upcoming cyberpunk anime reboot, Ghost in the Shell, which garnered 115 votes. Both series are set to release this July, although Bleach’s return feels somewhat bittersweet as it marks the conclusion of its run. New reports confirm that Viz Media will debut Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity on July 25, 2026, streaming exclusively on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in select international markets.
‘Bleach’ Is the Most Anticipated Returning Anime of the Year
Before the premiere, fans might have already seen parts of the new season, as the first three episodes were shown in U.S. theaters last month, available in both Japanese with English subtitles and in English dub. This concluding Bleach arc continues the adaptation of Tite Kubo’s bestselling manga and pushes the franchise toward its big finale. Pierrot Films is producing the series, with Taguchi Tomohisa directing and managing series composition alongside Hiramatsu Masaki. Sagisu Shiro composed the score while Kubo continues to supervise the anime’s final arc.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 4: The Calamity, consisting of 13 episodes, picks up as the conflict between the Soul Reapers and the Quincies nears its end, according to the synopsis. The Royal Guard’s Squad Zero confronts Yhwach as he breaches the Royal Palace, destroying Squad Zero’s Bankai before entering the Reio Greater Palace. Ichibe Hyosube tasks Ichigo and his allies with protecting the Soul King, but Yhwach’s deception leads Ichigo to strike down the Soul King himself, triggering distortions across the Three Worlds. The Thirteen Court Guard Squads and surviving Quincies advance on the Royal Palace, now transformed into the Wahr Welt under Wandenreich control, setting up battles against the Royal Guard as Ichigo confronts Uryu’s true motives and the Almighty-empowered Yhwach.
