Jackie Chan announces the start of production on his return as Asian Hawk in Armour of God 4: Ultimatum

1986 saw Jackie Chan bring his signature action to Indiana Jones-type adventure in the globe-trotting, archeological movie Armour of God. The movie notoriously features a stunt that nearly killed him and he came away from the movie with a hole in his head. Chan plays Asian Hawk, a hunter of mystical relics and he’d return to the character for 1991’s Armour of God II: Operation Condor, which got a standalone release in the U.S. in the late 90s. Then, in 2012, Chan would supposedly return to the franchise for a final all-out, old school action film with Chinese Zodiac. Obviously, Chan would not end his action run and he continues kicking it in the genre.

Armour of God 4: Ultimatum

Not only is Chan still fighting bad guys, but he has recently announced his return as Asian Hawk with Armour of God 4: Ultimatum. City On Fire has shared photos from the start of production. The new installment in the series comes from Salem Entertainment and will be helmed by Robert Kun, a director out of Kazakhstan, whose resume includes second unit directing on Disney’s The Last Warrior franchise. Kun also did the action and stunt choreography for 2008’s Wanted. According to the site, the plot synopsis reads, “The film sees Jackie Chan return as Asian Hawk, who gets dragged back into the chaos when a global hunt begins for an ancient artifact called the Tumar, with more than $20 million up for grabs.”

Filming is due to take place across Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. Chan’s co-stars include Hanzhi Xiang (A Little Mood for Love) and Kevin Ridger (Dongji Rescue). The entry looks to be a Kazakh production and will be the first in the franchise that is not produced by a Chinese studio, like Golden Harvest or Empreror Motion Pictures on the former films.

Chan made the statement to Variety, “This is my first project with Kazakh partners, but it will not be the last. We will be announcing much more soon. I have never filmed there before, and it opens up many new visual and creative ideas that we will be able to bring to audiences.” Check out the photos from the start of production below.
