Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse star Jake Johnson has officially signed on to star in the new comedy series, which already received a pilot order from NBC. The untitled show hails from Brooklyn Nine-Nine creator Dan Goor, who also worked with NBC on the popular workplace sitcom Parks and Recreation.

“The half-hour show is a workplace comedy set in the world of private detectives,” reads the initial logline. “It centers on Mickey. Smart, cynical, and heartbroken, but trying to pretend he’s not, Mickey is a private investigator with a knack for solving cases. Formerly an LAPD cop until his life imploded three years ago.”

In the untitled comedy, Johnson will be playing a private detective named Mickey. This marks his first major TV project in a while, after starring in HBO Max’s Minx series and ABC’S crime drama Stumptown. He is best known for his iconic role as Nick Miller in Fox’s New Girl sitcom, which lasted for seven seasons from 2011 to 2018. The upcoming pilot will be written and executive-produced by Goor and Luke Del Tredici. It is a production by Universal Television. At the moment, the show has no target release date yet.

Later this year, Johnson will star in three upcoming movies, including the drama The Sun Never Sets with Dakota Fanning, the sports comedy The Dink with Ben Stiller, and Laika’s stop-motion animated movie Wildwood. He is also set to reprise his fan-favorite role as Peter B. Parker in the long-delayed Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which debuts in 2027.
