James Bond is back on top to start a new era, and Netflix happens to be where that is happening. When looking at the best spy movie franchises of all time, it is impossible not to rush directly to Bond. After all, the spy is fiction’s most famous. Sure, there have been other exciting espionage franchises on the big screen over the years.
Tom Cruise led perhaps the second-biggest franchise with the Mission: Impossible movies as Ethan Hunt. Other noteworthy genre franchises include the Kingsman movies led by Taron Egerton, Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne franchise, and more. That said, one can do no wrong when choosing a 007 movie in place of other espionage thrillers. Quite frankly, James Bond’s movies are just that good.
Several actors have played James Bond in the spy movie franchise. The most recent take on the character was Daniel Craig’s, who brought out a more violent, action-oriented version of the famous spy. However, his time in the role ended with one of his best entries, 2021’s No Time to Die. Now, the Bond franchise is looking at its future, but a new era has just started.
With Craig out, Dune director Denis Villeneuve is taking over as the one behind the next James Bond movie. Casting has begun for who will play the new 007. That said, before a victor emerges, multiple Bond movies are now trending on Netflix, and they could serve as the perfect boost to get the franchise on the path it needs in its new era.
James Bond Movies Have Become Netflix Global Trends
According to FlixPatrol, not one, but two James Bond movies are currently on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies chart. Those include the one many believe to be Craig’s finest hour as the spy, Skyfall, at 8th, and the actor’s final adventure as the formidable spy, No Time to Die, at 5th. Both espionage thrillers are in the company of similarly toned movies on Netflix’s coveted worldwide chart, including films like the Spanish mystery thriller The Marked Woman, the hitman-focused The Killer, the crime thriller Colors of Evil: Black, and more. The dark documentary Maternal Instinct currently leads Netflix globally.
At the time of writing, Skyfall is trending in 30 countries. Given how it ranks higher than the earlier Craig Bond film, No Time to Die is understandably performing better in a bigger number of nations, currently trending in 33 countries. While that might not be by a wide margin, Skyfall is not Netflix’s most-watched movie in any country. Craig’s final James Bond movie ranks much higher in that regard, as No Time to Die is the biggest film on Netflix in 10 countries, including Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and more. The film’s streaming resurgence comes months before its 5-year anniversary.
James Bond Is Entering A New Era & Netflix Can Help It
The timing could not have been better for the return of the James Bond franchise as a global hit. The first high-profile game in the spy series in a long time was released recently, with Patrick Gibson playing a young version of the spy in 007 First Light, which arrived on May 27. After the new adventure, which focuses on telling an origin story for a modern Bond, the next major release in the franchise will be Villeneuve’s James Bond movie, which does not yet have a release date. Still, the Netflix resurgence comes at the right time.
Having multiple James Bond movies trending on Netflix does wonders in terms of raising awareness for both the game and the upcoming movie reboot. After all, Netflix is one of the biggest streaming services nowadays, if not the biggest, and by performing as strongly as it is on the streamer’s global charts, it means that millions of viewers are turning to the James Bond franchise. That could convert many into being interested in a trip to the theater when Villeneuve’s Bond arrives, boosting the start of James Bond‘s new era considerably.
