One of Nike’s most memorable — yet rarely reissued — basketball sneakers of the 1990s is set to return next year for its 30th anniversary.
Nike’s Zoom Flight 5 (often stylized as Zoom Flight V), famously worn by NBA Hall of Famer Jason Kidd, will make its long-awaited return in 2027. Its striking look was unique even in the late 1990s during the height of Nike’s experimental design. Continuing where the brand’s Zoom Flight 95 and Zoom Flight 96 sneakers left off, the Zoom Flight 5 took things in a new direction while maintaining the sleek, point guard-tailored build of its predecessors.
The most distinct feature of the Zoom Flight 5 is the large iridescent “bug eye” jewel on its lateral midsole. This detail helped the sneaker stand out in a sea of other groundbreaking Nike designs, but it wasn’t the only atypical feature seen on the sneaker. Its outsole features an aggressive, nubbed traction pattern befitting of football turf shoes such as the Zoom Turf Jet 97 worn by former Detroit Lions star Barry Sanders.
While Zoom Flight 5 reissues have been sparse, the model did receive a rerelease in 2008 under the name Zoom Flight 5 B. That retro run included a relaunch of the original White/Midnight Navy colorway along with a handful of other styles but was ultimately short lived.

Along with the White/Midnight Navy colorway, the Nike Zoom Flight 5 is also set to return in its original Black/Lapis/White makeup (pictured above), a pair which has not been available at retail since the model’s original ’97 launch.
The Nike Zoom Flight 5 will be released during summer ’27 in the White/Midnight Navy/Metallic Silver/Multi-Color/Pine Green colorway pictured here under style code JJ3694-100. Retail pricing for the pair is expected to be $170 with availability from Nike’s Snkrs app and select Nike Sportswear retailers.
