The title and plot for the highly anticipated Jumanji 4 film have finally been released.
During CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday, Sony revealed that the fourth and final installment in the franchise will be titled Jumanji: Open World. In the footage shown at the convention, the virtual world collides with the real world, as the human characters come face-to-face with the video game characters while they are in demo mode. The third in the set of films starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, the latest footage from Jumanji: Open World also featured a nod to the man that started it all: the late Robin Williams, with Johnson telling audiences at CinemaCon that there’s an Easter egg that’s in every single scene in the new film.
Often referred to as Jumanji 3, or the fourth in the overall series, Jumanji: Open World has long been planned as the final movie in the current trilogy, with Johnson confirming in November 2025 when production began, that one-half of the original dice used in the first Jumanji film would be used in the final installment.
This is the dice from the original Jumanji with Robin Williams as a show of respect and a way of honoring Robin and this entire franchise that he started as we film our very last Jumanji.
The film was originally set to be released on December 11, but in March, it was announced that the release date had been moved to Christmas Day, fueling a battle at the box office, with Dune: Part Three and Avengers Doomsday releasing just a week prior on December 18.
This isn’t the first Christmas released in the Jumanji franchise, with the 1995 classic being released on December 15 of that year. 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was released in theaters on December 20 and grossed over $960 million worldwide. And now, it seems the fourth movie hopes to replicate that Christmas magic.
In addition to the original cast, it has been reported that Nick Jonas and Danny DeVito will be reprising their roles as Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough and Edward “Eddie” Gilpin. Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris, Marin Hinkle, and Rhys Darby will also be returning for the sequel, with new additions Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes.
