Lionsgate’s “Michael” has made its debut at the box-office, pulling in $97 million domestically and $120.4 million overseas to deliver $217.4 million worldwide on its opening weekend.

It’s the second biggest domestic opening weekend of the year so far, behind only “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” ($131M) and ahead of “Project Hail Mary” ($80M). The film had the biggest opening day domestically of the year with $40 million on Friday (which includes previews) and the best for Lionsgate in a decade.

The film’s CinemaScore sits at an A- while IMAX and premium large format screens are driving 48% of U.S. weekend ticket sales (16% from Imax alone).

“Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” looks to fall 59% in its second weekend – targeting $23.3 million for its second run.

David Lowery’s “Mother Mary” expanded to eighth place with $1.3 million. The dark comedy “Over Your Dead Body” released in seventh place with $1.5 million.

The Aaron Taylor-Johnson-led bomb defusing/heist film “Fuze” debuted in tenth place with $1.1 million.

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” was second with $20.5 million, “Project Hail Mary” is in third with $12.1 million, and “The Drama” was in fifth with $2.6 million.
