Tyrese Maxey scored 32 points, and Andre Drummond posted a double-double off the bench, as Philadelphia 76ers assured itself of finishing no worse than eighth in the Eastern Conference after beating Indiana Pacers in Indianapolis.

With Joel Embiid out due to appendicitis, Drummond produced 10 points and 16 rebounds. The 76ers ended a three-game ‌skid and stayed alive in the chase for the East’s sixth and final automatic playoff berth.

Jarace Walker’s 17 points led the Pacers, who have lost four of the past five. Micah Potter finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Pistons 118, Hornets 100

Jalen Duren scored 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field, as Detroit Pistons rode a strong stretch early in the fourth quarter to a win over host Charlotte Hornets.

Duncan Robinson racked up 19 points, Cade Cunningham had 14 points, Ronald Holland II posted 13 points and Ausar Thompson added 12 ‌points for the Pistons, who have won five of their past six games.

Detroit had already locked up first place in the Eastern Conference. The outcome means the Hornets will be in the East’s play-in tournament.

The loss eliminated any chance that they could advance directly to the playoff bracket. ‌LaMelo ⁠Ball’s 27 points, including six three-point baskets, led the Hornets, while Brandon Miller had 22 points. Coby White, after missing the team’s Tuesday game night because of groin soreness, scored 11 points off the bench.

Bucks 125, Nets 108

AJ Green scored a career-high 35 points ⁠to lead Milwaukee to a victory over visiting Brooklyn Nets in Milwaukee Bucks’ final home game of the season.

The Bucks snapped a two-game skid as Green also became just the third Buck ever to make 10 or more three-pointers in a game (11-for-16). Cormac Ryan added 28 while Taurean Prince scored 18 with 10 rebounds. Jericho Sims posted a double- double off the bench with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Tyson Etienne led the Nets with 23 points. Malachi Smith nearly contributed a triple-double with 19 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. The Nets only played seven players and each contributed double figures. Reserve Nolan Traore scored 14 points in just over 16 minutes of action.

Nuggets 127, Thunder 107

Jonas Valanciunas amassed 23 points and 17 rebounds, both season highs, and Julian Strawther added 22 points as host Denver Nuggets beat Oklahoma City Thunder in a matchup of benches.

The Nuggets clinched at least the fourth seed in the Western ‌Conference with their 11th straight win. They can still capture the No. 3 seed with a win on Sunday in San Antonio or with the Lakers’ loss. They rested its entire starting five and Spencer Jones and Peyton Watson, both of whom have been sidelined with hamstring strains.

The Thunder have secured the top overall seed. The only starter dressed for either team was Thunder guard Luguentz Dort, who was required to play at least 20 minutes in each of the final two games to qualify for postseason awards, according to coach Mark Daigneault.

Jazz 147, Grizzlies 101

Rookie Blake Hinson scored a career-high 30 points, and two reserves logged triple-doubles, helping Utah Jazz snap a 10-game losing streak with a demolition of Memphis Grizzlies in Salt Lake City.

Rookie Bez Mbeng logged 27 points, 11 assists, 11 rebounds and three steals for his first triple-double. John Konchar registered a ‌triple-double for a second straight game, finishing with 11 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and five steals. Kennedy Chandler added 26 points and 10 assists to help the Jazz get into the win column for only the second time in 16 games.

Dariq Whitehead led the Grizzlies with a career-best 21 points.

Rookie Toby Okani had a career-high 20 points, and Adama Bal added 18 for the Grizzlies, who used just six players while losing their seventh straight game.

Kings 124, Warriors 118

Devin Carter set career highs with six three-pointers, 29 points and nine rebounds as Sacramento Kings beat visiting Golden State Warriors.

Carter shot 11-for-18 from the floor and 6-for-11 from three-point range for the Kings, which avenged a 110-105 loss to the Warriors on Tuesday in San Francisco. Maxime Raynaud scored 23 points, Nique ⁠Clifford and Daeqwon Plowden scored 20 apiece, and Malik Monk added 11.

Brandin Podziemski led the Warriors with a career-high 30 points, and De’Anthony Melton added 17. They lost for the sixth time in their past seven games, and will compete in the play-in tournament as the No. 10 seed in the West.

Heat 140, Wizards 117

Simone Fontecchio and Pelle Larsson scored 24 points each as Miami Heat snapped a two-game losing streak, crushing host Washington Wizards.

Bam Adebayo added 20 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the Heat, who are locked into a spot in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament. Adebayo scored a franchise-record 83 points against the Wizards on March ‌10. The Heat completed a 4-0 season sweep of the Wizards.

The Heat, however, have just four wins over the past 14 games. Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 23 points for them, and Kasparas Jakucionis had 16.

Bub Carrington led the scoring with 30 points, Bilal Coulibaly added 25 points and five assists, while Will Riley scored 16 points for the Wizards, who have the NBA’s worst record as they fell for the 25th time in 26 games.

Knicks 112, Raptors 95

Jalen Brunson scored 14 of his game-high 29 points in the third quarter as New York Knicks clinched the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference with a victory over visiting Toronto Raptors.

Sandro Mamukelashvili produced 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Raptors, who fell into a tie with the Orlando Magic for the sixth and final automatic playoff spot in the East. The Raptors hold the tiebreaker edge. Brandon Ingram had 16 points and six assists for the Raptors. Ja’Kobe Walter went 4 of 7 from beyond the arc en route to 15 points.

Trail Blazers 116, Clippers 97

Deni Avdija scored 15 of his game-high 35 points in the fourth quarter and helped fuel a crucial run as Portland Trail Blazers powered past visiting Los Angeles Clippers.

The teams are now tied with 41-40 records and one game to go, but the Trail Blazers own the tiebreaker, which would leave them eighth in the ‌Western Conference. Donovan Clingan added 18 points and 13 rebounds for the hosts.

Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 24 points and eight rebounds. Brook Lopez knocked down five three-pointers on the way to 21 points.

Magic 127, Bulls 103

Franz Wagner scored 25 points, and Jamal Cain added 20 as visiting Orlando Magic stretched its winning streak to five games with a victory against Chicago Bulls.

The Magic remained alive for the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference—which would allow them to avoid the play-in tournament—with one game remaining in the regular season. Goga Bitadze posted a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for the Magic. Paolo Banchero scored 14 points to go with nine rebounds and seven assists.

The Bulls suffered their eighth loss in 10 games despite 23 points from Tre Jones. They have now lost 50 games for the first time since 2018-19. Matas Buzelis had ⁠14 points and eight rebounds for the Bulls before leaving in the third quarter with a sprained right ankle.

Celtics 144, Pelicans 118

Boston Celtics tied an NBA record by making 29 three-point field goals and secured the No. 2 seed for the Eastern Conference playoffs by beating visiting New Orleans Pelicans.

The Celtics took 59 three-point shots but didn’t put up a shot ‌on their final possession. The record for made three-pointers in a game is also shared by the 2020 Milwaukee Bucks, the 2024 Celtics and the 2026 Grizzlies.

The Celtics received 24 points from Sam Hauser, who was 8 of 12 from three-point territory. Jaylen Brown scored 23, and Payton Pritchard finished with 21 points and 10 assists. Jeremiah Fears led the Pelicans with 36.

Timberwolves 136, Rockets 132

Donte DiVincenzo scored 11 of his 18 points to spark a fourth-quarter rally, and Terrence Shannon Jr. chipped in 23 points off the bench as short-handed Minnesota Timberwolves snapped host Houston Rockets’ eight-game winning streak.

Anthony Edwards scored 22 points in his return after missing 10 of the previous 12 games. The Timberwolves, playing without starters Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert and sixth man Naz Reid, shot 57.3 per cent from the floor, including 15 of 30 from behind the arc.

WNBA stars Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers will make their major international debuts with the U.S. team at next month’s FIBA World Cup in Germany.

USA Basketball announced the 12-player women’s national team on Thursday, with Angel Reese and Aliyah Boston also among the first-timers joining veterans such as A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart.

Napheesa Collier, Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, Kahleah Copper and Rhyne Howard also will be part of the decorated squad looking to win a fifth consecutive World Cup gold medal and 12th overall.

“It’s great to have a team and to have a roster,” national team coach Kara Lawson said in a statement. “It’s been a long process to whittle it down to 12 players, and I think that speaks to just the talent we have in our country across the board. These 12 have earned it through their play and their consistency. I couldn’t be more excited about working with each of them, and I’ve had good experience with each of them. … I know what they’re capable of, and I know that this is a group that’s ready for the challenges that are ahead.”

The elite roster was assembled by national team managing director Sue Bird and approved by the USA Basketball board of directors.

“I’m so excited to announce the 2026 USA Basketball Women’s National Team,” Bird said in a statement. “This is an incredibly talented group that has earned the opportunity to compete in Berlin. Wearing a USA jersey is a privilege, and I know these 12 players will embrace that responsibility as we go after another gold medal. I can’t wait to see what this team accomplishes together.”

The U.S. squad heading to Berlin includes seven players who are under 30, including four 24-year-olds. Gray is the senior member of the team at 33.

The World Cup runs from Sept. 4-13, with the WNBA season on pause from Aug. 31-Sept. 16. The U.S. will face China on Sept. 4, Italy on Sept. 6 and the Czech Republic on Sept. 7 in group play before advancing to the knockout rounds.

Ted Lasso is back. The fish-out-of-water sports comedy following a football coach turned futbol coach came to a complete conclusion in 2023, ending the story of Lasso as coach of A.F.C Richmond with Ted hanging up his whistle, returning to Kansas, and deciding that the most important thing to him was spending time with his son. Now the show is back after a three-year hiatus, flipping the script with Lasso returning to the UK to become the coach of the club’s women’s team.

The return of the show also means the return of our weekly reviews. James Dator and Mark Schofield are both avid Ted Lasso fans, and are once again diving in with the show’s return to give our takes.

I was both excited and retiscent about there being a fourth season of Ted Lasso. Naturally I wanted, needed more of the best sporting comedy ever to grace TVs, but there was a part of me that worried a fourth season was brought about for the wrong reasons. Was there really more of a story to tell with this cast of characters, or was this an example of the AppleTV content engine desperately needing more fuel, and willing to throw whatever money it took to make it happen?

After one episode I don’t have an answer to that question. The writing was there, the feel of a Ted Lasso episode was there, but something just felt … off about the first foray into season four, which centered on Rebecca, Keeley, and Higgins making a trip to Kansas City to try and court Ted to return to Richmond and coach its burgeoning women’s team.

There were some powerful moments to be sure, and others that wrestled a smile from the staunchest of faces — but all in all, “Home,” felt forced and manufactured in a way that is inherently unlike past seasons of Lasso, or producer Bill Lawrence’s other standout ensemble comedies (Shrinking, Rooster). There was a level of hesitation and nervousness which permeated the episode, as if everyone who had a hand in it also wondered if they were doing the right thing by reviving a series that had a clear, perfect conclusion in 2023.

This resulted in a lot of box-checking disguised as narrative. Ted is working a dead-end job as assistant manager of a grocery store, but displaying far too much enthusiasm. We were told that Rebecca and Matthijs were still together, that Keeley and Roy were still friends, Ted and Michelle were co-parenting exes, Henry is conveniently at a pre-teen crossroads where he feels out of place and in need of a change, hell, we even got a lingering shot of a newspaper explaining the Jamie Tartt transferred away from Richmond, justifying why we wont see Phil Dunster in the series. That’s my core problem with the show’s premiere: we were told all these things without anything unfolding organically.

One of the most beautiful elements of the first three seasons of Ted Lasso was the willingness for the show to take its time, to meander, to not answer every question the viewer had with a clear-cut response, but rather bathe in the ambiguity and allow things to be revealed naturally. Instead, “Home” was a formulaic slap in the face to make darn sure to tie up every thread. That’s before we talk about the self-aggrandizing elements of the premiere, which were much too on the nose.

We all know that Jason Sudekis is from Kansas City, and that he loves his hometown. We’ve seen him at Chiefs games, and repping Sporting KC — but his involvement in the show hit too close with “Home” being an over-exuberant love letter to Kansas City. Everything about the city was incredible to the three Brits who landed there as fish out of water. Rebecca was so overcome by BBQ that she couldn’t help spilling sauce on her designer clothes three times in as many scenes, completely incongruous with her character. Keeley found her Kansas City muse in a bedazzled boutique-owner who was the female embodiment of Ted himself, while also making sure she established herself as a girl boss. Higgins was the only character to face any kind of disappointment, upon learning that the jazz museum he planned to visit was closed — but it was okay, because he found a kindly man to teach him life lessons through the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, rich with Satchel Paige anecdotes.

The message of “Kansas City was amazing” ran over viewers with the subtlety of a freight train, and it’s impossible to imagine that would have happened without Sudekis being so intimately involved in the show as a producer.

Ultimately, we got the nice little bow put on everything that “Home” set out to achieve. Ted is going to take the job in London, with no difficult decisions, no tough choices — because Michelle and Henry are coming with him! What a stroke of luck that Michelle hates her job, and nothing is going right for Henry. One of the first things Rebecca said to Ted upon her arrival was that the first time she hired him it was for all the wrong reasons, but this time it was for all the right ones — how ironic that it stands in contrast with this season, with an opening that felt crafted for all the wrong motivations.

I’m willing to give Ted Lasso a little grace to show me more moving forward, because of my love for its overarching narrative — but I’ll admit I feel much, much more nervous about the prospects of this season based on the writing of its premiere.

We’ve all had a flight like this: Whether due to weather or some other reason, the plane is rocking and rolling during the climb out of the departure airport, and the seatbelt sign remains on as the pilots work towards cruising altitude.

And if you are a nervous flyer like I am, you’re waiting for the WiFi to kick in so you can refresh every turbulence-related website you can think of, to see if it will be like this during the duration of the flight.

There are not turbulence-related websites for television shows, but if there were, I would have been reaching for one during the opening minutes of the season four premier of Ted Lasso. Because it felt, to me, a bit rocky.

Let’s start with the setup. I found it tough to believe that a coach who delivered a national title to Wichita State, and then enjoyed some success in the Premier League, would be working at a grocery store. I know I’m not alone, as the wife of one of Ted’s former players – who he happened to bump into at said store – felt the same way. It made everything that followed a bit … easier to unfold. Now I’m not saying Lasso should have been working under Andy Reid with the Kansas City Chiefs, but a coach at a local college should have been on the table.

Instead, he’s teaching (coaching?) teenage co-workers not to steal and trying to convince people older not to smoke, while asking his boss if it is okay to leave early because of something that happened at your son’s school.

Because … it’s easier to uproot your life if you’re leaving a job that you probably shouldn’t be at in the first place.

The bumps continued when Rebecca, Keeley, and Higgins arrived to surprise Ted, and offer him a job coaching Richmond’s new women’s team. While there was a chuckle or two during the scene at the restaurant, the show did not start to pick up steam until our four heroes separated. Higgins’ tour of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum was solid, as was Rebecca and Keeley’s shopping experience.

But what really smoothed things out, at least for a moment, was Ted helping his mom at a yard sale, as Dottie prepared to move into a new community. (The scene of Ted walking into his childhood bedroom, complete with a dartboard on the wall, truly worked. As did Dottie’s pep talk to try and prod her son to take the job).

Ted is still not convinced, and after seeing his three former colleagues off at the airport – and accepting a gift from Rebecca – he finally makes his way into the office at his new house, and surrounds himself with old Richmond memories. You know where this is going, as he pulls his phone out of his pocket to text his ex-wife about the possibility of moving to London. The response is an immediate yes – we learn second later it is actually Ted’s son saying yes – but of course Michelle is a yes too.

Again, it is all very easy and convenient, and if there have been criticisms of Ted Lasso over the years, they follow this line: Conflict is hard, it is easier to just … continuing the flight analogy … fly around the storms than through them. Having Ted in a job he actually enjoyed would have made this a tougher choice. Having Henry or Michelle at least hesitant about the idea would have made this tougher.

But in the end, the Lassos are headed back to London.

Now, maybe the flight path is smooth from here. Once the show gets back on Richmond footing, the things that made us all fall in love with Ted Lasso return, and the show hits its stride.

But sometimes, the bumps persist.

Because it felt, to me, a bit rocky.Let’s start with the setup. I found it tough to believe that a coach who delivered a national title to Wichita State, and then enjoyed some success in the Premier League, would be working at a grocery store. I know I’m not alone, as the wife of one of Ted’s former players – who he happened to bump into at said store – felt the same way. It made everything that followed a bit … easier to unfold. Now I’m not saying Lasso should have been working under Andy Reid with the Kansas City Chiefs, but a coach at a local college should have been on the table.Instead, he’s teaching (coaching?) teenage co-workers not to steal and trying to convince people older not to smoke, while asking his boss if it is okay to leave early because of something that happened at your son’s school.Because … it’s easier to uproot your life if you’re leaving a job that you probably shouldn’t be at in the first place.The bumps continued when Rebecca, Keeley, and Higgins arrived to surprise Ted, and offer him a job coaching Richmond’s new women’s team. While there was a chuckle or two during the scene at the restaurant, the show did not start to pick up steam until our four heroes separated. Higgins’ tour of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum was solid, as was Rebecca and Keeley’s shopping experience.But what really smoothed things out, at least for a moment, was Ted helping his mom at a yard sale, as Dottie prepared to move into a new community. (The scene of Ted walking into his childhood bedroom, complete with a dartboard on the wall, truly worked. As did Dottie’s pep talk to try and prod her son to take the job).Ted is still not convinced, and after seeing his three former colleagues off at the airport – and accepting a gift from Rebecca – he finally makes his way into the office at his new house, and surrounds himself with old Richmond memories. You know where this is going, as he pulls his phone out of his pocket to text his ex-wife about the possibility of moving to London. The response is an immediate yes – we learn second later it is actually Ted’s son saying yes – but of course Michelle is a yes too.Again, it is all very easy and convenient, and if there have been criticisms of Ted Lasso over the years, they follow this line: Conflict is hard, it is easier to just … continuing the flight analogy … fly around the storms than through them. Having Ted in a job he actually enjoyed would have made this a tougher choice. Having Henry or Michelle at least hesitant about the idea would have made this tougher.But in the end, the Lassos are headed back to London.Now, maybe the flight path is smooth from here. Ted Lasso is back. The fish-out-of-water sports comedy following a football coach turned futbol coach came to a complete conclusion in 2023, ending the story of Lasso as coach of A.F.C Richmond with Ted hanging up his whistle, returning to Kansas, and deciding that the most important thing to him was spending time with his son. Now the show is back after a three-year hiatus, flipping the script with Lasso returning to the UK to become the coach of the club’s women’s team.
The return of the show also means the return of our weekly reviews. James Dator and Mark Schofield are both avid Ted Lasso fans, and are once again diving in with the show’s return to give our takes.
I was both excited and retiscent about there being a fourth season of Ted Lasso. Naturally I wanted, needed more of the best sporting comedy ever to grace TVs, but there was a part of me that worried a fourth season was brought about for the wrong reasons. Was there really more of a story to tell with this cast of characters, or was this an example of the AppleTV content engine desperately needing more fuel, and willing to throw whatever money it took to make it happen?
After one episode I don’t have an answer to that question. The writing was there, the feel of a Ted Lasso episode was there, but something just felt … off about the first foray into season four, which centered on Rebecca, Keeley, and Higgins making a trip to Kansas City to try and court Ted to return to Richmond and coach its burgeoning women’s team.
There were some powerful moments to be sure, and others that wrestled a smile from the staunchest of faces — but all in all, “Home,” felt forced and manufactured in a way that is inherently unlike past seasons of Lasso, or producer Bill Lawrence’s other standout ensemble comedies (Shrinking, Rooster). There was a level of hesitation and nervousness which permeated the episode, as if everyone who had a hand in it also wondered if they were doing the right thing by reviving a series that had a clear, perfect conclusion in 2023.
This resulted in a lot of box-checking disguised as narrative. Ted is working a dead-end job as assistant manager of a grocery store, but displaying far too much enthusiasm. We were told that Rebecca and Matthijs were still together, that Keeley and Roy were still friends, Ted and Michelle were co-parenting exes, Henry is conveniently at a pre-teen crossroads where he feels out of place and in need of a change, hell, we even got a lingering shot of a newspaper explaining the Jamie Tartt transferred away from Richmond, justifying why we wont see Phil Dunster in the series. That’s my core problem with the show’s premiere: we were told all these things without anything unfolding organically.
One of the most beautiful elements of the first three seasons of Ted Lasso was the willingness for the show to take its time, to meander, to not answer every question the viewer had with a clear-cut response, but rather bathe in the ambiguity and allow things to be revealed naturally. Instead, “Home” was a formulaic slap in the face to make darn sure to tie up every thread. That’s before we talk about the self-aggrandizing elements of the premiere, which were much too on the nose.
We all know that Jason Sudekis is from Kansas City, and that he loves his hometown. We’ve seen him at Chiefs games, and repping Sporting KC — but his involvement in the show hit too close with “Home” being an over-exuberant love letter to Kansas City. Everything about the city was incredible to the three Brits who landed there as fish out of water. Rebecca was so overcome by BBQ that she couldn’t help spilling sauce on her designer clothes three times in as many scenes, completely incongruous with her character. Keeley found her Kansas City muse in a bedazzled boutique-owner who was the female embodiment of Ted himself, while also making sure she established herself as a girl boss. Higgins was the only character to face any kind of disappointment, upon learning that the jazz museum he planned to visit was closed — but it was okay, because he found a kindly man to teach him life lessons through the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, rich with Satchel Paige anecdotes.
The message of “Kansas City was amazing” ran over viewers with the subtlety of a freight train, and it’s impossible to imagine that would have happened without Sudekis being so intimately involved in the show as a producer.
Ultimately, we got the nice little bow put on everything that “Home” set out to achieve. Ted is going to take the job in London, with no difficult decisions, no tough choices — because Michelle and Henry are coming with him! What a stroke of luck that Michelle hates her job, and nothing is going right for Henry. Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomandé has completed his transfer from RB Leipzig to Real Madrid, the La Liga club announced on Thursday.

“Real Madrid CF and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Yan Diomande, who will be linked to our club for the next seven seasons, until June 30, 2033,” the Spanish club said in a statement.

The 19-year-old becomes the latest signing of new manager Jose Mourinho, who has already roped in Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konaté, Carlos Espí and World Cup winner Marc Cucurella to revamp the squad before the 2026-27 season.

Though the fee was not announced, media reports claim it was around €140 million, a club record, including add-ons. Diomande’s reported deal involves a guaranteed fee of €125 million, with the deal having multiple add-ons that could see the 15-time European champion shell out €15 million more.

The 19-year-old winger had been heavily linked with Los Blancos after the FIFA World Cup 2026, where he had impressed with the Elephants, becoming their youngest-ever player in the tournament.

Diomande earned the Player of the Match in Ivory Coast’s opening match in the World Cup — which the team won 1-0 over Ecuador — and provided an assist in their 2-0 win over Curacao. He featured in all matches of Ivory Coast at the World Cup as the team qualified for the knockouts for the first time.

Last season, Diomande scored 13 goals and assisted 10 more for Leipzig, which included a hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt, becoming the second youngest player to achieve this feat in Bundesliga history behind only Walter Bechtold in 1965.
