“Sitting around is for losers. I want you to compete for $100,000. This is my tribute.” Vortex Media has unveiled the official trailer for a strange indie film titled Best Boy, from Canadian filmmaker Jesse Noah Klein. This first premiered at the 2025 Edinburgh Film Festival last year and will be out to watch in summer if anyone’s curious – starting in theaters up in Canada first, of course. Three siblings compete in outrageous challenges for their late father’s fortune, rekindling old rivalries & family dynamics. As the games play out, hidden truths emerge, relationships crumble, violence ensues. Starring Aaron Abrams, Marc Bendavid, Mario Dallaire, Caroline Dhavernas, and Lise Roy as mother. It’s described as a “bold, original and blackly comic satire” with “early [Yorgos] Lanthimos tones.” Definitely has some weird Dogtooth vibes from this trailer footage. Keep an eye out for this one. I’m curious to see how it all plays out with these three kids.

Here’s the main official trailer (+ poster) for Jesse Noah Klein’s film Best Boy, direct from YouTube:

After the death of their abusive and tyrannic father, three children – now adults – and their aging mother (Lise Roy) return to their long-abandoned summer cottage. They will partake in a strange competition that tore the family apart 30 years prior – a nightmarish return to the past for the family’s children. Best Boy is written and directed by Quebecois indie filmmaker Jesse Noah Klein, of the films Shadowboxing, We’re Still Together, and Like a House on Fire previously, plus a few shorts. Produced by Laurent Allaire & Chantal Chamandy. This first premiered at the 2025 Edinburgh Film Festival last year. Vortex Media debuts Klein’s Best Boy film in cinemas in Canada starting this May and also on VOD in the US later this summer.
