You likely hum the tunes on a regular basis, whether it’s thinking back to the fun of Full House or Diff’rent Strokes. How well do you know them when it comes to the lyrics, though? The Most Memorable 1980s Sitcom Theme Songs
Of course, there are some sitcom songs that will stand out more than others. They were the shows that we watched over and over again, getting the theme songs stuck in our heads. Or there were particular lines that simply stood out in a way that made us smile.
Diff’rent Strokes’ own theme song included the show’s name, like so many other sitcoms of the time. There was no mistaking it once you got to the heart of the song. Then there were themes like the Night Court song that made it very clear it was a “court at night.”
If you don’t get Frank Sinatra’s “Love and Marriage” stuck in your head when you’re thinking about the Bundys, then you clearly didn’t watch Married… With Children. Now is the time to go and watch it, but I dare you not to sing the song hours after an episode has ended.
Not all of the songs seemed to name the series, but you’ll still remember them. One of the most memorable theme songs is “Where Everybody Knows Your Name,” bringing the love of Cheers to our ears.
“Thank You for Being a Friend” immediately stands out as The Golden Girls, marking the meaning behind the series as a whole. Sure, the women had their flings, but the heart of the series was always about their unlikely and lovable friendship.
Another popular theme song from the ‘80s is “As Long As We Got Each Other” from Growing Pains. The song itself set the tone of familial love and optimism that the sitcom offered.
Music will always have its place in TV shows and movies. However, very few will get the opportunity to remember the brilliance of TV theme songs.
