Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has called for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation following a wave of violent attacks that have intensified concerns about the country’s worsening security crisis. In a post shared on X on Wednesday, November 19, Falz cited the abduction of 25 students in Kebbi State, the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno, and an attack on a Christ Apostolic Church branch in Kwara as evidence of the administration’s failure to protect citizens. Referencing a 2014 tweet in which Tinubu, then an opposition leader, urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to resign over insecurity, Falz reposted the president’s old words, insisting they now apply to him: “You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people… RESIGN NOW!”

Falz’s criticism comes amid growing domestic and international attention to Nigeria’s security challenges, with recent massacres and abductions fueling public outrage. 3. Court sentences Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment

The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on all seven terrorism-related charges brought by the Federal Government. Justice James Omotosho delivered the ruling on Thursday, imposing life sentences on counts one, two, four, five, and six—opting against the death penalty despite noting that the offences carry the maximum punishment under Nigerian law. Kanu also received 20 years in prison on count three, which concerns membership of a proscribed terrorist group, and five years on count seven for the unlawful importation of a radio transmitter used for Radio Biafra broadcasts. The judge cited Kanu’s inflammatory statements, including threats of violence and enforcement of sit-at-home orders across the South-East, as acts designed to destabilise the country and promote secession.

Justice Omotosho said he chose to “temper justice with mercy,” referencing Christian teachings, despite describing Kanu’s conduct as unruly throughout the trial. All sentences will run concurrently, and due to security concerns linked to numerous killings associated with Kanu’s directives, the court ordered that he be held in protective custody at a secure facility instead of Kuje Correctional Centre. The judge also directed that Kanu be denied access to digital devices and that the imported transmitter be forfeited to the Federal Government. The ruling has already drawn national and political reactions, with critics and supporters sharply divided over the implications of the life sentence for the South-East and the broader debate around Nigeria’s unity and security.

4. Chadwick Boseman honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Family members, fellow artists, and fans gathered in Los Angeles on Thursday to honor the late Chadwick Boseman as he received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The day was officially declared “Chadwick Boseman Day,” and the ceremony drew emotional tributes from his Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom co-star Viola Davis, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, and his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman.
