Red Dead Redemption 2 has been out for a very long time at this point, and many of those who continue to return to enjoy what it has to offer do so via the extensive and ongoing multiplayer modes. Happily, Rockstar has been pretty diligent about attending to those modes with regularity, despite their focus on GTA VI, and the game is in a remarkably healthy state right now as a result.
As is often the case, there are several things going on right now that you’ll likely want to be aware of if you’re planning to log-in and play the game any time soon. One of those is a major event, and it’s dropping a freebie that you’ll definitely want to grab if you’re a fan of kicking up your boots and trying to catch a few fish.
Over on Twitter/X, the official Rockstar Games profile shared an update on what’s going on in Red Dead Online right now with the following caption:
“Claim a free Fishing Rod in Red Dead Online this week and sell what you catch to the Butcher for 5X RDO$. The Fishing Challenge Free Roam Event is also rewarding competitive anglers with 5X RDO$ and XP through May 4.”
That exciting freebie comes as part of a wider Trader Bonuses event, where you can earn plenty more currency and items for your character. You can grab 3X RDO$, Gold, and XP on Call to Arms, while reaching Wave 4 in any Call to Arms this month will reward you with the Larkin Gloves.
Logging in for two individual days this week will also entitle you to the gray Shaffer Chaps, and you can pick up the collection of returning pieces from the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Catalogue, including the Danube and Tasman Outfits, Charro Jacket, Chambliss Corset, and Fernwater Coat. Lastly, logging in at any time this month to receive the tan Carbow Double Bandolier.
All of that exciting stuff is set to run until May 4, when many of the items will become unavailable. That said, the development team is showing very few signs of slowing down overall, so it’s a pretty safe bet that we’ll get another solid set of rewards for our characters in relatively short order.
That should hopefully be enough to tide us over until the release of GTA VI, and if that turns out to be a major disappointment, then at least we have the familiar warming embrace of Red Dead to come back to.
