Snoop Dogg is making it clear his life story won’t be watered down. Taking the stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the rap icon teased his long-awaited biopic and declared from the jump that the movie would definitely be “Rated R.”
Production on the film is slated to begin in Los Angeles this summer, with Snoop promising fans a raw and unfiltered take on his journey.
The update arrives as the rapper continues to expand his reach well beyond music, building a portfolio of ventures across sports and television. On the TV front, Snoop has even hinted at a potential collaboration with Simon Cowell on a new show.
Snoop Dogg Shares Details About Upcoming Biopic
Universal Pictures kicked off its CinemaCon 2026 presentation with a major moment, bringing out Snoop to promote his upcoming and still-untitled biopic. During his appearance, the music star gave fans something to look forward to, promising a return to the Las Vegas convention next year with the film’s first trailer.
Casting details for the movie have already started to take shape. “Outer Banks” star Jonathan Daviss is set to portray Snoop, with Craig Brewer attached to direct. Daviss even joined Snoop on stage as the rapper teased the film, though he admitted key details are still under wraps.
“I wish I could give you more details,” Snoop said, per Deadline. He then closed out the moment in true fashion, jumping into performances of hits like “Gin and Juice” and “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang.”
Snoop’s Biopic Praised As ‘Spiritual Cousin Of Straight Outta Compton’

Snoop’s upcoming biopic is already drawing comparisons to one of hip-hop’s most defining films. While outlining the project at CinemaCon, Chair of NBCUniversal Entertainment Donna Langley described the movie as “the spiritual cousin” of “Straight Outta Compton.”
The forthcoming film traces Snoop’s rise from the streets of Long Beach to global stardom, spotlighting his breakout moment with “Doggystyle,” the chart-topping debut he released alongside Dr. Dre under Death Row Records.
Beyond music, Snoop has steadily expanded his footprint across entertainment and business, stepping into film and television while also moving into sports ownership as a co-owner of Swansea City in Wales.
Snoop Dogg Said The Biopic Will Be ‘Rated R’

Speaking at the CinemaCon stage, Snoop made it clear his upcoming biopic won’t be playing it safe. The rapper positioned the project as his turn to tell his story following the success of “Straight Outta Compton,” which raked in over $200 million worldwide.
“After my brothers got to tell their story with ‘Straight Outta Compton,’ now it’s my turn,” he said. Still, Snoop stressed that this film will carry his unmistakable edge.
“If we’re gonna do a Snoop Dogg movie, I gotta get gangster with it,” he added, before sealing expectations with the blunt promise: “My movie is going to be rated R, I guarantee that. So, get your parents’ permission.”
The Rapper Reveals Plan To Work With Simon Cowell

After his biopic, Snoop is setting his sights on television next, revealing plans to team up with Simon Cowell on a new show that’s been years in the making.
Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, he revealed that the idea has been on the table for more than a decade.
“For real, I have been talking about working with my boy Simon for over ten years,” Snoop said, explaining that timing has always been the biggest hurdle. “There are times when it could have happened, when it nearly happened, but one of our schedules always got in the way.”
Now, he believes the moment may have finally arrived. The “Baby Boy” actor praised Cowell as “one of the great talent scouts of all time,” adding that he still has “one great new show left in him.”

Snoop is already lining up his next move toward that dream, revealing plans to head to the U.K. to sit down with Cowell and finally lock in the project.
The rapper explained that he’ll use the trip to fine-tune ideas for the show, suggesting that the timing may finally be right to bring their collaboration to life.
“Maybe this is the time to make the Snoop and Simon TV partnership happen. I got a few ideas that could be huge, but I got to speak to Simon first,” he said.
