Kolkata Knight Riders batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee for breaching the Indian Premier League Code of Conduct during the match against Lucknow Super Giants.
He also received one demerit point for the offence.
Raghuvanshi was dismissed in dramatic fashion, adjudged out for obstructing the field, becoming only the fourth batter in IPL history to be dismissed in this manner. The 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, who made nine, expressed his displeasure and briefly argued with the on-field umpires before eventually accepting the decision and walking back to the pavilion.
“Raghuvanshi was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to ‘abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match’,” the league said in a statement.
“ … Raghuvanshi struck the boundary cushion with his bat in an aggressive manner and subsequently threw his helmet into the dugout in a similar manner. Raghuvanshi admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction.”

Nicholas Pooran was Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) best option for the Super Over, given his record against Sunil Narine in T20 cricket over the years, LSG coach Justin Langer said after the loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match here at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium on Sunday.
Coming in to bat first in the Super Over, Pooran was cleaned up by Narine off the first ball. LSG managed just one run as Narine had Aiden Markram caught the very next delivery. KKR wrapped up the game off the first ball to register its second win in eight matches.
“We knew Sunil Narine would bowl, and if you look at Nicholas Pooran’s record, he’s faced Narine more than almost anyone in world cricket,” Langer said after the game. “We felt he was still our best option.”
Pooran hasn’t been among the runs this season: 82 in eight innings at an average of 10.25 and a strike rate of 81.18. Acknowledging the dip, Langer added, “I know he hasn’t hit form yet, but if anyone can produce a big moment, it’s Nicky. You back your best players. He has struggled, but the numbers say no one plays Narine better than him. Unfortunately, it didn’t come off.”
Langer also pointed out that such phases are part of the game. “Even great players like him – probably one of the greatest T20 players of the last few years – it just shows he’s human. You can’t force confidence. You can try to look confident, but it comes from getting your processes right and working every day. He’s putting in the effort to get it back.”
At the halfway mark, LSG would have fancied its chances after restricting KKR to 155 for seven. However, it might not have crossed even 140 if not for Rinku Singh’s unbeaten 83 off 51 balls. KKR was 112 for seven after 18 overs before Rinku smashed 17 and 26 in the final two overs. Langer admitted those late runs proved costly.
“For 18 overs, we felt on top of the game. Then they get 40-odd at the end, suddenly get a sniff, and with two world-class spinners like Varun (Chakaravarthy) and Sunil (Narine), they would have felt right back in it,” he said.
KKR fast bowler Vaibhav Arora also credited Rinku’s late burst, including four consecutive sixes off Digvesh Rathi in the final over. “We won because of Rinku’s innings. Had he not played that knock, we wouldn’t have reached that total. On this pitch, 155 was a decent score,” he said.
Arora added that while the pitch was challenging, it wasn’t unplayable. “I thought we bowled really well, especially in the PowerPlay, where we conceded just 37 runs and picked up a wicket. That phase gave us momentum, and then we controlled the middle overs very well.”
The pacer also said there was no confusion over the Super Over bowler. “Sunil Narine has been our best bowler and has been with us for so long that everyone trusts him to do the job, and he did it superbly. There wasn’t much confusion; we had our best bowler, so we had the advantage going into the Super Over.”

Lucknow Super Giants is still trying to find its best combination but feels it is one match away from getting its IPL 2026 campaign going, spin bowling coach Carl Crowe said here on Saturday.
Super Giants, currently ninth in the standings, have changed their batting line-up on multiple occasions in seven games so far. Captain Rishabh Pant opened in their first game with Mitchell Marsh before Aiden Markram was given that role. Ayush Badoni has opened with Marsh in the last couple of games.
“I think in terms of one of those changes, it was very much a match-up. In the modern game, you try and recognise what the options are going to be and plan accordingly,” Crowe explained on the eve of LSG’s fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium.
“When you’re not playing quite so well, you’re trying to find that perfect match-up, but at the same time stability is vitally important,” he added. “It’s about still trying to find the best combination for us, and when you do find that combination, you try to stick with it for as long as possible.”
Crowe said the LSG batters are aware of their shortcomings in the first half of the league stage and are working hard to overcome them. “We are one match away from smashing it and getting to where we need to be,” the coach said.
The contest will be played on a black-soil pitch – a surface that will be used for the first time this season. However, Crowe said it doesn’t matter which surface the game is played on.
“So, it’s black soil tomorrow, I believe. From a foreign perspective – and I know this is probably more of a coach’s view – sometimes we can make a bit too much of the conditions before the game, whether it’s red soil, black soil or mixed.
“If you come in with a preconceived idea of how a certain pitch is going to play, you limit your plan,” Crowe said.
Meanwhile, KKR’s Anukul Roy said that the team’s first win last week has boosted players’ confidence. “Whatever we are trying to do, we haven’t been able to do up to the mark. Results can go up and down. We are trying to win every game possible from here,” Roy said.
When quizzed whether Matheesha Pathirana will be available for the game, the youngster remained tight-lipped. “He has been practicing with us for the last week. You’ll only know at the toss tomorrow if he’s playing or not,” Roy said.

Punjab Kings needs to complete the highest chase in IPL history in order to win…
The comeback win over the Rajasthan Royals has breathed some life back into the Kolkata Knight Riders’ campaign after a winless start to IPL 2026.
A spirited bowling performance, led by spinners Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine, followed by a crucial seventh-wicket partnership between Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy, helped the side jump off bottom place in the standings temporarily.
Victory at the Eden Gardens was only a small relief from the disappointing beginning to the season endured by the three-time champion. Injuries have played a major part in handicapping the side’s bowling arsenal, with India internationals Harshit Rana and Akash Deep ruled out with injury ahead of the tournament. Big money signing Matheesha Pathirana has just joined the team after recovering from an injury during the T20 World Cup.
Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar attributed KKR’s poor start to their auction strategy and their decision to hand the leadership to Ajinkya Rahane.
“KKR let go of Shreyas Iyer for whatever reason after a successful season and then picked a guy who didn’t get picked in the first round of bidding and made him captain. Captaincy in T20 cricket is huge and has a massive impact on the results,” Manjrekar said on Sportstar’s Insight Edge podcast.
“Ajinkya Rahane, the player, has also diminished. He’s lost his place on the Indian team. He’s not a natural T20 player. CSK got the best out of Rahane in the first six overs, but he was struggling post-six overs when the field spread out. He’s just not firing at the top of the order and can’t bat down as well. But he might as well bat down to accommodate the destructive T20 batters [Finn Allen and Tim Seifert],” he reasoned.
Manjrekar also explained that the KKR leadership has not utilised Australian all-rounder Cameron Green properly so far in the tournament, after bagging him for a whopping INR 25.20 crore.
“I just feel tall bowlers who hit the deck [like Green] are always going to be a risky option in India. I would use Green the batter a lot more. He’s also gone up and down the order a lot, so if you want to back a certain player, then you’ve got to stick with that player at a certain position,” he opined.

For the first time since April 2024, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was able to register two consecutive wins in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team secured a 32-run win over last-placed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to move to eighth on the points table, surpassing fellow five-time champion Mumbai Indians.
At the heart of the victory were two spinners, Noor Ahmad and Akeal Hosein, who shared four wickets between them. In their eight-over quota, they conceded just 56 runs and picked up wickets at regular intervals to derail the KKR batting unit.
Their ability to complement each other, coupled with inputs from former skipper M.S. Dhoni, fuelled the game-defining performance, feels CSK’s assistant bowling coach Sridharan Sriram.
“They both communicate well, and they’ve got a very good understanding. I think today [Tuesday], Akeal was the one who went and told Noor about the length that he needed to bowl. Noor bowled a bit short in the first over, but once he found that in-between length, he was unplayable,” he said in the post-match press conference.
“Even MS (Dhoni) had a long chat with him (Noor), asking him to bowl more leg breaks. It was really helpful today, and the results were there to show,” he added.
One glaring issue in an otherwise perfect night for the home side was the number of catches dropped. Sunil Narine, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Ajinkya Rahane were all given extra lives. However, they were unable to capitalise on those chances.
“It is something that the fielding coach will definitely address. I think in the last game we set really high standards. So one or two misses are bound to happen, but I think we’ll bounce back,” Sriram said.
Reposing faith
On the flip side, problems persist for KKR, which is languishing at the bottom of the table. One such issue that needs immediate attention is the lack of contribution from Cameron Green. With the ball, he conceded 30 in two overs, and in the chase, fell to Noor Ahmad off the very first ball.
“He hasn’t performed the way he would’ve wanted, yes. But he’s a quality player, and I think he didn’t play a lot of cricket leading into the IPL. Yeah, but of all people, he would be disappointed with himself. I’m sure he’ll bounce back at some stage this season,” said Tim Southee, KKR’s bowling coach.
Adding to the team’s woes, its frontline spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has failed to make an impact so far. After conceding over 12 runs per over in the previous two games, Varun was able to control the damage, going for just over 26 runs in three overs.
“If you look at Varun’s record in the IPL, it’s unbelievable. When you have a record like that and have a rough outing, there will be a lot of outside noise. But looking at the success he’s had with Kolkata and India, I think he will bounce back,” Southee said.
