Pop superstar Taylor Swift and American football player Travis Kelce are holding their wedding at Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York on Friday.
A spokesperson confirmed to news agencies that the 36-year-old pair was officially married.
“Taylor & Travis did not have bridesmaids or groomsmen. Instead, her brother Austin Swift served as Taylor’s Man of Honor and Jason Kelce was Travis’ Best Man,” the spokesperson said. “The ceremony joined both families together and was officiated by friend Adam Sandler.”
A slew of celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez, Ed Sheeran, Ethan Hawke, Jimmy Fallon and Abby Wambach were spotted entering the venue on Friday.
Some 1,000 guests were expected at the event, but they were reportedly banned from bringing phones and allegedly had to sign non-disclosure agreements regarding the event.
Among the stars expected at the wedding are model Gigi Hadid, actors Hugh Grant, Bradley Cooper and Dakota Johnson, and pop figures Benson Boone and Camila Cabello.
‘Special Event at MSG’
A permit for a “Special Event at MSG” shows:
- Thursday, 6:30pm: “Pre-party celebration” where 100 guests would begin arriving at MSG for a rehearsal dinner
- Overnight: Full street closure will then go into effect
- Friday afternoon: Several blocks surrounding the arena will be off-limits to vehicles and partially closed to pedestrians. Access to the nearby Penn Station transport hub will be heavily restricted
- Friday, 5 pm: The “main event”, assumed to be the wedding itself
- Saturday, 4 am: Cut-off time for the “main event”
Manhattan resident Alyssa Heinen told AFP that it feels like a “royal wedding” to Swift’s fans. “She is the biggest thing in America — like she is our royalty, she is our queen, she is everything.”
Star-studded guest list expected
According to New York City records, the party can host up to 1,000 people, with media reports describing tight security around the event.
Expected guests included celebrities Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Selena Gomez and Zoe Kravitz, as well as Kelce’s teammates from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Earlier, workers spent several days delivering decorations, catering supplies and equipment to the venue. Fencing and temporary structures were erected outside the arena.
Wedding on a busy weekend
The festivities coincided with the Fourth of July holiday weekend, as New York also hosts Independence Day events, preparations for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and a FIFA World Cup match.
The event also cames amid a heat wave in the city.
“If you happen to be getting married at MSG, you will be staying inside and staying cool, and I think it’s a good example to set for the city at large,” New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said when asked about a potential Swift wedding.
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement in August.
