“That’s the power of art – to say another world is possible, and we have the power to change things.” 📸 Watermelon Pics has unveiled a first look teaser trailer for a powerful new documentary film titled Shoot the People, a profile of an academical photographer named Misan Harriman. This premiered last year at SXSW London (because he’s a British photographer and the filmmaker is British, too) with a major stop at DOC NYC in the fall as its second premiere. Shoot the People follows renowned photographer and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Misan Harriman as he documents global protest movements driving social change, from the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests to the Palestinian liberation movement. Through his lens, this captures the urgency, power, and humanity behind these movements. Gain insights into challenges and strategies for change through interviews and frontline photography. This is getting a small theatrical release in art house cinemas in the US and UK starting this summer – check your local listings to catch it on the big screen. I’m always intrigued by docs on photographers & their perspectives on the world / what’s going on.

Here’s the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Andy Mundy-Castle’s doc Shoot the People, from YouTube:

Nigerian-born British image-maker Misan Harriman has earned accolades for powerful photographs of grassroots protests against climate change inaction, Gaza atrocities, George Floyd’s murder, & many other historic events. Yet even as his images provoke palpable reactions – as a self-described person of privilege, Harriman shares his doubts about his work’s effectiveness in discussion with such human rights leaders as Rep. Ilhan Omar and Martin Luther King III. Urgent and compelling, Harriman’s compassion & questioning are needed more than ever. Shoot the People is directed by BAFTA-winning UK filmmaker Andy Mundy-Castle, director of the doc film White Nanny Black Child previously, plus many shorts & other projects. Produced by Wyn Baptiste. This initially premiered at SXSW London 2025 last year and also played at DOC NYC in the fall. Watermelon Pictures debuts Shoot the People in select US theaters starting June 19th, 2026, then in the UK starting July 10th this summer. For details visit the film’s official site.
