Wintertime dressing can be a tricky dance. When there’s snow in the forecast and temperatures are dropping into the single digits, you have to dress for warmth—but what if you also want to look fly?

On the runways this season in Paris and Milan, we noticed an array of unique, if not exactly functional, headwear: dapper top hats, flirty newsboy caps, and—if you can believe it—post-irony fedoras. But on the streets outside of the shows, fashion-week attendees actually kept warm by donning their best chapeaus in the form of knit bonnets, brimless trilbies, and bunny-eared beanies. Some even fashioned their scarves into makeshift balaclavas. And they looked great doing it.
