The Best U.S. Colleges for Long-Term Career Success, According to LinkedIn

18.6 million students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs across the U.S. for the Spring 2026 semester.

For many, the goal after earning a postsecondary degree is to find a fulfilling career in your field, one where you can grow both personally and professionally. While this is a common aspiration among college students, achieving it isn’t necessarily easy.

THE DATA

According to new data from LinkedIn, the school you attend can actually impact your chances of long-term career success after graduation. This advantage is attributed to a range of factors, including the internships you complete while in college, the level of job placement support you receive, and the strength of the school’s network; in other words, alumni connections that help set you up for success once you’ve left the institution’s historic halls.

Choosing a school with these strengths can eliminate years of job-search stress and allow you to advance into leadership roles sooner. Colleges and universities that rank among the best extend support to ensure their students have ample opportunities to showcase what they’ve learned and to use their skills to make a meaningful impact in the world.

The list isn’t limited to Ivy League or private universities, though; those institutions do rank near the top, as they are praised for setting their students up for success and generating networks of proud alumni. LinkedIn’s analysis also considered public and specialized schools, as well as liberal arts colleges.

Let’s take a look at the data to see which postsecondary institutions rise to the occasion when it comes to supporting the continued career success of their graduates.

COLLEGES THAT MADE THE CUT

At the top of the list are Princeton, Duke, and Harvard. According to LinkedIn, these schools are the best for long-term career success. A greater percentage of their graduates, compared to other colleges nationwide, found work or leadership opportunities within a year of graduating.

Alumni from these schools tend to stay connected, making it easier for graduates to network with fellow alumni and boost their chances of securing a job.

Does attending these top-ranked schools guarantee you’ll lock down a position the year you graduate? Not necessarily. However, with the internships and support offered by college staff and fellow alumni, your chances of building a successful career after graduation are higher than at any other college in America.

Here are the top 25 colleges for long-term career success in the U.S.
