Every streaming service in the world is always on the hunt for its next big action series, and much of this craze can be traced back to Prime Video’s work with Reacher. The three-part series (soon to be four) stars the gargantuan Alan Ritchson, who has also gone on to feature in some other massive action movies like The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (co-starring Henry Cavill) and Fast X (co-starring Vin Diesel). Reacher has become such a big entity in the streaming world that it has every platform chasing its own version of the property. Netflix has propped up The Night Agent (starring Gabriel Basso) as its Reacher replacement, and the show is now in production on its fourth and final season. Even Peacock has found its own version of Reacher, and the show finally recieved an official update this morning regarding its next batch of episodes.
Peacock’s biggest action series to emerge in the last few years has been The Day of the Jackal, which stars Eddie Redmayne (Fantastic Beasts) and Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel). The show is based on the novel of the same name by Frederick Forsyth, and Reacher creator Lee Child has confirmed that it helped inspire his Reacher writings. The first season of The Day of the Jackal premiered back at the end of 2024, and despite an early renewal, there was no sign of The Day of the Jackal returning in 2025. However, production on The Day of the Jackal Season 2 commenced earlier this year, as proven by the first images. This morning, Peacock confirmed that The Day of the Jackal Season 2 will not return until 2027, which is devastating for fans who were hoping to see more from the show before the end of the year.
Who Else Stars in ‘The Day of the Jackal’ Season 2?
In addition to Eddie Redmayne, long-time Game of Thrones veteran Charles Dance will return in The Day of the Jackal Season 2 as Timothy Winthorp. Pablo Schreiber, the Den of Thieves star who is also famous for playing Master Chief in Paramount’s Halo series, has also joined The Day of the Jackal Season 2 cast. The Day of the Jackal Season 1 was showrun by Ronan Bennett, who is also the head writer on MobLand (starring Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan). However, following his departure from the show as writer, David Harrower has taken over as the new writer and showrunner, but Bennett will continue to produce in Season 2. Úrsula Corberó, Eleanor Matsura, and Weruche Opia will also star.
Check out the first season of The Day of the Jackal on Peacock and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Season 2.
