A new trailer for The Cat in the Hat gives the beloved Dr. Seuss icon his toughest mission yet. Directed by Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoji, the upcoming film will see the anthropomorphic cat take up an assignment of cheering two children struggling to adjust to life in a new town. With Bill Hader voicing The Cat, the animated fantasy comedy film is due for a release later this year.

The Cat in the Hat trailer begins with the eponymous cat being summoned to the boss’s office at the Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC. The viewers find out that every single assignment The Cat has taken so far has been deemed a disaster. He is given one last mission to prove himself, with failure meaning the loss of his iconic stripes.

The children he is tasked with cheering up are then introduced, and they are struggling to adjust after moving to a new town. After an initial awkward phase, the kids warm up to The Cat, but just as things start to get fun, he accidentally loses his Go-Backer. It’s a device that helps him travel back in time. Understanding the gravity of the situation, The Cat strikes a deal with the kids, promising to undo their move if they help him retrieve his Go-Backer. What follows next forms the rest of the trailer.

The synopsis for the film reads, “In the film, our hero takes on his toughest assignment yet for the I.I.I.I. (Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC): to cheer Gabby and Sebastian, a pair of siblings struggling with their move to a new town. The Cat in the Hat is slated to release in theaters on November 6, 2026.
