The Witcher 3 Online Multiplayer Update Lets You Explore With Friends

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has proven itself to be a timeless RPG experience over and over again, with a plethora of continued support through updates and new official DLC that make us fall in love with the game each time. While CD Projekt Red has offered plenty of content for fans to enjoy, it’s the players themselves who have been putting out some of the most exciting new features and mods to add more replayability.

Having already fixed countless bugs and missed potential within The Witcher 3‘s massive open world, a recent update is offering an entirely new way to experience the classic RPG’s story with more than a few friends by your side.

While it’s not an entirely new addition, the popular Witcher Online modding project by rejuvenate7 on NexusMods for The Witcher 3 just got a major update. This adds several highly requested features to the multiplayer experience, allowing you to more seamlessly explore the northern realms in the closest thing yet to an official co-op experience.

Although the mod itself was created a few months back in January, the latest version 4.0 update introduces two major features in the form of a new party system and cutscene synchronization. While players previously had to be almost entirely independent of each other, they can now share the same time, weather, cutscenes, and dialogue choices.

Previously, you also couldn’t see other players in the HUD while playing through The Witcher 3. The latest updates make it easier to find your friends and complete quests together far more easily, as whichever dialog choice the party leader selects is applied to the game of every other player within their group.

While this isn’t the first time we’ve covered an update for Witcher Online, the passion project has come an incredibly long way since its release. Plenty of quality-of-life features and more recent bugfixes make the experience more enjoyable than ever before, while also enhancing its accessibility thanks to the localization update allowing for easier translation for global players.

Given that it’s unlikely we’ll ever see official multiplayer in a Witcher game, creations like these are more than enough to help satisfy that co-op RPG itch within one of the most immersive fantasy worlds of all time, especially considering that CD Projekt Red is adding official console modding support for The Witcher 3 within the year.
